Lady-like. That’s the word to remember when thinking nail colors and styles this spring and summer. Whether you choose a classic red, a crisp coral, dreamy pastels or elegant nudes, you’ll want to be channeling Grace Kelly or Kate Middleton and not Dita Von Teese or Nicki Minaj.
While there are still talon looks out there, shapes are predominantly shorter and cleaner.  Very short and squared or else rounded or squ-oval when longer. (the styling tip is to match the shape of your nail to the shape of your “moon” for the most flattering look on you).
We checked in with Kendra Marlow, the nail technician and make-up artist at Modern Salon and Spa in Birkdale Village about the trends in shape and color. Kendra reports that these days, both are completely up to each person’s taste and style. Much like skirt length and heel height, your fashion in nails is that best suited to your style and lifestyle. However, Kendra agreed that she is primarily seeing requests for a shorter, more tailored look, and that pastels are popular so far this year. Particularly pistachio, grey and lilac – customers are loving the new Water Collection at Modern Salon and Spa right now. Along with a classic short red and a classic short black. Oh, and turquoise is a much requested shade – the Spa Ritual EBB & FLO below is hugely popular among younger customers. Kendra even did a trendy French manicure recently – pink nails with turquoise tips. More on nail trends like ombre, reverse french and nail art next week, but you may want to be thinking about GALA nails to accompany your GALA gown this season.
Here are the color trends and some snaps we pulled off the interwebs to tempt you. And right now, you can get a great deal on a mani/pedi combo via Modern Salon and Spa online booking (offer is for internet booking only). Only $51 for a Modern Essentials Mani/Pedi with Massage, reg price is $102. Exclusive internet offer, must purchase online voucher for discount.
And it’s new again to match your nails to your lips whenever you can, whether in brights, reds or nudes. But not, we’ll say, in lilacs, blues or pistachios.
