As a rule, I find bright colored clothing too darn perky for my taste. Â Just too hap-hap-happy and ain’t-she-sweet-sunny. Â I have two bright cardi’s, and no matter how many times I try them on, I can’t pull it off unless it’s a pool party or summer picnic.
This season’s brights had me more than a bit worried, since it’s all about mixing your brights. Â Lolla-po-bright-a looza. Â Brights on steroids. Â Then I saw these “looks” on Net-a-porter and I realized that I could do either of these.
And I raced right over to Target and grabbed a couple of pieces to make them work. Here’s how:
Rule #1: Solids. Â Period. Â No prints.
Rule #2: The Neutral Base. Â Note the grey tee & the basic black or white bottom.
Rule #3: Off beat color combo’s.
Rule #4: A neutral shoe that ties to your pants. Â And therefore, a bag that really pops.
I bought two grey t-shirts at Target today along with a bright, off beat mustard color scarf. Â I’m going to wear these with my teal blue or my dark bright pink cardi. Â Target had several solid bright scarves to choose from. Nordstrom has plenty of colors for their Brass Plum department’s $24.50 cotton jersey cardigan. Â As does Gap, although their ribbed waist cardi is more $$.
