The Dorm Room Must Haves for Heading Off to College. (2015)

No matter who does the decorating for their new home away from home, the dorm room presents some unique challenges.  Of course every campus is different, and some allow more leeway than others. We’ve just been fascinated by the adaptability and creativity we’ve found when researching this ideabook, and will let the pics speak for the themselves.  Well, almost.

And if you are more concerned with the practicalities of getting them off to school (if they haven’t left already) here are some excellent words of advice and wisdom we found from a first time mom).

First up, our favorite bed solution.
Not new, but nicely done.  Set up like sofas, with a “body” pillow that acts as bolster.

Or how about this one – bookcases on the ends with a curtain rod/curtains for privacy.

Hard to imagine this room stays this neat, but the shelving and storage cart must help. Although this would never work on the beloved cinder-block wall, and neither would this adorable and crazy cute storage-slash-wall display of an uber-coordinated prepster. (this can’t be real).

More practical and easier to execute, the wrapping paper wall paper we found, below.

Perfect for this job, TempPaper adhesive backed “wallpaper” at Cotswold Marketplace. Sticks up and then comes down easily.

Another common dorm decorating trick that’s a bit beyond a cute throw rug and pillows is to add a new shade to the ceiling fixture.  Not for the uninitiated, but easier done than you’d think.  When in doubt, check out Urban Outfitters.

And of course, always with the photos and mementos.  Here are a few unique ways to display photo’s we found that seem perfect for the dorm.  Like this headboard from Urban Outfitters.
And this postcard collage from pinterest – just as easily done with photos.  We prefer the collage collection as art form to the wallpaper of images below it, but hey, to each their own.  It’s their room after all.

And finally, we LOVE this Stitchagram pillow.  Use your instagram to make a pillow on stitchagram.  What, you don’t have instagram?  Use their instagram then.  And get with the program mom.
