What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you see red nail polish? Classic or boring – there are so many different reds it is kind of mind boggling.  My initial mindset is that I am not really fond of red, but apparently I have a weakness for the color, since I have a ton of reds in my collection! Since Valentines Day naturally gravitates towards red, my goal is to show you that there are more red options out there then a classic (boring) red cream.
First up a very pretty red with gold shimmer that is very easy to wear. OPI The Spy Who Loved Me, from the Skyfall OO7 collection.
This next one is more of a raspberry red, but a red none the less. The holographic glitter just adds to the beauty of this polish, Zoya Blaze.
Before I give you some options of different reds, I want to show you some fun ways to jazz up your valentine mani. A huge trend right now is the accent nail, usually your ring finger, in a different texture, tone, art or color.  There are no rules for the accent nail. Here are four possibilities and the how-tos:
The base on all nails, except for the ring finger, is Zoya Rekha with Cult Nails Tempest on the ring finger.
From left to right:
–Â “Caviar” Nail, created using red micro beads from a craft store. Dip your nail into the micro beads while the polish is still tacky and volia, “caviar” nails. Â Granted this is not for everyone and usually will only last one night, but how fun!
– Next up is Gold Finger (sorry for the ear worm). Almost every nail polish company came out with their version of real gold flake topcoat this winter, and it is a luxurious and elegant way to spice up a red crea. ! Zoya Gilty was used for this look.
– Polka dot fun on the ring finger. Polka dots are an easy way to make it look like you have mad skillz in nail art.  You can use the head of a pin, a bobby pin or a dotting tool to create the dots. Here I used a dotting tool from Orly that I picked up at Ulta to create the pink and red dots, Zoya Rekha and Cult Nails Devious Nature respectively.
– Finally for the “heart of the matter,” really this just showcases my lack of mad skillz in the nail art area 🙂  To create the heart, I used a nail art polish or a striping polish, Orly Solid Gold. Â
There you have it some fun and easy ways to step up your game this Valentines Day. My accent nail polish line up below:
