Lauren’s FlyBarre Challenge Diary. Barre date 2/18/13.

Dear Flywheel,

I can’t believe it could be almost over between us. With only two weeks left to the FlyBarre Challenge, I’m sad to say I’ll be missing the four dates we’ve been sharing each week. You started off as a monotonous task hanging over my head,  yet now you’re one of my favorite parts of the day. Apparently an hour of shaking and burning really pays off.

Thanks to barre abs, I’ve lost a quarter of an inch off my waist. And even more thanks to dynamic arms now that my arms are also slimmer by a quarter of an inch. Hello tank top season! Numerically speaking, the numbers may not be overwhelming. But I see a noticeable change in the way my body looks and feels. My jeans fit more comfortably, and I feel content about the way my clothes look these days.

The last FlyBarre challenge set a studio record with one participant losing 15 inches in six weeks. The particular challenger combined barre with cycle and a moderate diet and voila, the inches just melted away. It’s too early to tell if the record will be broken this time around, but I’ll keep you updated once the challenge is complete.

According to Charlotte Regional Manager and flybarre instructor Carrie Kaschak, there’s more to the challenge than just numbers.

“The best result outside of inches lost is that the challengers who are participating in four classes a week have developed a habit of exercising. Some of our participants have never had a dedicated exercise regimen that they look forward to. The Challenge motivates you to be in class and one day you discover that you love the class and actually want to pulse, burn, and sweat! What an exciting feeling for someone who previously dreaded their workout or didn’t workout at all,” she explained.

I can attest to Carrie’s sentiments about the effectiveness of the challenge. Unlike other personal goals that I set for myself, the challenge has encouraged me to make it to a set number of classes per week. In addition,  it always seems easier to stick to a goal when you have other members involved. If it weren’t for the challenge, I know it would be difficult to wake up and push myself to make it to class. Especially in the beginning when the muscle soreness was most intense.

I’ve truly enjoyed taking part in the FlyBarre challenge. The instructors are sincerely motivating, which only adds to the overall pleasant experience of waking up and starting the day at Flywheel. If I had to do it all over again, I’d be waiting on a mat with a towel and weights ready.

Love,
Lauren
