For some of us, the presents we give during the holiday season double as decoration….at least while they’re under our tree, waiting to be gifted.  Some years we go with a color theme, some years we’re very traditional and some trendy & different. New wrapping papers and ribbon feel like little, easy holiday decorating treats every year in my house. My own little Martha moment.
This year, I took a trip to Paper Twist in Specialty Shops on the Park to check out their holiday wrapping options – and took some time to video owner Sasha Harbrecht’s HOW TO WRAP & TIE tips. But p.s., if after you read this, you’re not feeling the wrapping party sesh, call Paper Twist and have your gifts wrapped for you by the ladies there.
WRAPPING THE PRESENT
The first step to achieving the prettiest of packages is making sure you have your gift in a box of some sort. Wrapping odd-shaped items only wastes paper and frustrates you. And none of us need frustration during the holidays. No ma’am. If the gift doesn’t fit in a box, then buy a cute gift bag & call it a day.
Once you’ve got your gift secured in a box, make sure you have wrapping paper with which you can work. Paper Twist owner Sasha Harbrecht told me novice wrappers may get frustrated with paper that’s too heavy, but super thin paper tears easily. (Hint: for best results, go see the gals at Paper Twist and buy from their gorgeous selection.)
Check out the video below for a step-by-step guide to wrapping your gifts.
TYING THE PERFECT BOW
Once you’ve got your box wrapped, it’s time for a little icing… aka ribbon. We’ve got two bow options for you. One is called the perfect bow and works best with satin or grosgrain ribbon. As you watch the video (click on the picture below) you’ll see that Sasha makes tying these bows look easy. But, if tying bows is new to you please please please pause this video with each step. Again, this is the season of joy. NO FRUSTRATION ALLOWED!
TYING THE FLOURISH BOW
A fluffier bow option is the flourish bow. I love to frost my packages with this type of bow.  I think it’s a bit harder than the perfect bow. But, I’m a gal that LOVES fluff, so I throw a few fluffy bows in the mix with my more tailored perfect bow packages.
With this bow, you’ll do better to have a ribbon with a wire. It allows your bow to hold its look without needing a large amount of ribbon. Watch the video and again, feel free to pause and rewind (do we still rewind?) multiple times.
There you have it. I’m so excited to see your packages. Why don’t you take a few pictures and post them to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and tag @Scoopcharlotte and Paper Twist  in them. We’d love to see your beautiful creations!
BONUS: Hot off the presses, Sasha was kind enough to send us a few more images to help you wrap those gifts to perfection. Simply click on the picture for detailed instructions.
