Edible treats make great hostess gifts

No offense to fruit cake, but I’m pretty sure that it falls under the category of gifts that no one actually wants to receive.

Yet somehow or another, fruit cake is at least rumored to be a pretty standard holiday gift year after year.

If you’re going to a party this season, I suggest showing the host and/or hostess your gratitude by bringing one of the following desserts along with you instead.  Present the treats in a mason jar with a ribbon wrapped around it or in a nice tin, and your gift is sure to be appreciated.

By the way, all of these recipes have been lightened up, so they won’t settle in your stomach like a giant brick.

Lighter Puppy Chow

Ingredients:

1 cup dark chocolate chips
2 tablespoons all-natural peanut butter
4 tablespoons Earth Balance butter (or any light butter)
1 package of sugar free vanilla pudding mix
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups Wheat Chex cereal
2 packets of stevia

Directions:
Measure the cereal and set aside. In a large uncovered bowl, microwave the butter, chocolate chips, peanut butter, and vanilla for about 1 minute.  Remove from the microwave and stir.  You may need to microwave the mixture for a bit longer if it is not completely melted.  Pour the cereal into the mixture and stir gently.  Allow the mixture to cool for about 20 minutes.  Once it has cooled, pour it into a zip lock bag, add the vanilla pudding mix, and shake until the cereal mixture is well-coated.

Your host or hostess will be so happy when you show up at their door with one of these tasty treats. Trust me.
