Charlotte’s top stylists give us Fashion 2013 in Review

As we were getting ready for the Tweet up with the #cltstylepanel this Sunday for the Golden Globes Red Carpet, I decided to check in with a couple of the QC’s top stylists to see their thoughts on the year that was and things to come in the year ahead.  Without further ado, here they are and what they had to say:

BEST FASHION TREND OR STYLE IN 2013?

Denim just keeps getting better. 2013 was a great year for legs — from prints to textures to cuts. And I loved it all! If I had to narrow down the list of denim to one style, it’d be moto jeans.

Moto-Jeans-from denimblog.com

WORST?

Skirt/dress hems cut at mid-calf. No one can pull this off except 6 foot runway models. Which is why the trend should have just stayed there.

FAVORITE BEAUTY LOOK OR STYLE FOR 2013?

I will never tire of the loose wave. That beautifully undone look that’s a bit more difficult to achieve than one would think 😉

HAIR OR MAKE UP LOOK YOU’D LIKE TO SEE DISAPPEAR IN 2013?

I am tired of the bold matte lip.

BEST NEW CHARLOTTE STORE OR BUSINESS OPENED IN 2013?

I’m going to go with Denim House, since it was supposed to open months ago!!  I am dying for it [sic] to open.

BEST NEW RESTAURANT OR BAR TO SEE & BE SEEN?

Tupelo Honey.

HALL OF FAME – BEST RED CARPET LOOK FROM 2013

There have been zero since 2011 when Cate Blanchett wore the lavender and yellow Givenchy for the Oscars. Honestly, nothing can top it. If you twisted my arm and I had to pick for 2013, it would be Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture for the Oscars. The shape and texture were magnificent.

HALL OF SHAME – WORST CELEB FASHION FAUX PAS YOU SAW IN 2013

Miley Cyrus. Need I say more?

WHAT ONE THING SHOULD WE BUY ON SALE THIS WINTER CLEARANCE SEASON?

A luxe coat in fur or shearling.

WHAT ONE THING SHOULD WE LOOK FOR TO ADD TO OUR CLOSETS FOR SPRING?

Print pants.

ANY TRENDS YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US THAT YOU THINK WILL HIT THE CHARLOTTE STORES THIS YEAR?

It’s wonderful when trends are so well received that they keep coming back, time and time again — like the high contrast dynamic duo, black and white. Prints are also back in full force — in tops, pants/shorts/skirts and dresses. And for those who love a bermuda short, your options just opened up.

BEST FASHION TREND OR STYLE IN 2013?
The Punk/Grunge style trend. It pushed people out of their comfort zones and everyone found something in this style to wear. From studded jewelry to moto boots to the leather, it gave everyone edge.

WORST?
It’s a tie for me. #1, Those deep crotch harem pants that look similar to hammer pants. It is not flattering to look like you’ve pooped your pants. And #2, the Flatform. I don’t get it.  Platform sneakers, sandals, or slip on. It’s a little too Clueless-is-hanging-out-with-Marilyn-Manson kind of thing.

FAVORITE BEAUTY LOOK OR STYLE FOR 2013?
The red lip. Looks great on every skin tone.

HAIR OR MAKE UP LOOK YOU’D LIKE TO SEE DISAPPEAR IN 2013?
OMG The topknot. I don’t get how looking like you have a donut on your head became stylish.

BEST NEW RESTAURANT OR BAR TO SEE & BE SEEN?
Nan & Byrons!

HALL OF FAME – BEST RED CARPET LOOK FROM 2013
Charlize Theron in Dior Couture at the 2013 Oscars. She wore a white bustier dress with embroidery on the peplum. Charlize is one of those celebs who can wear formal edge in a sophisticated, fashion-forward way, effortlessly. You can tell she’s game for whatever her stylist throws her way, and she has the confidence to pull it off.

HALL OF SHAME – WORST CELEB FASHION FAUX PAS YOU SAW IN 2013
Miley Cyrus. I mean, where should I start? Do you have an hour to spare?

WHAT ONE THING SHOULD WE BUY ON SALE THIS WINTER CLEARANCE SEASON?
Quality Leather leggings. You will wear them all winter and on summer date nights.

WHAT ONE THING SHOULD WE LOOK FOR TO ADD TO OUR CLOSETS FOR SPRING?
If you’re fit, you must rock the midriff look with a cute skirt. Otherwise, the biggest trend I saw at NYFW was lots of sheer. Sheer panels in tops, skirts, pants and dresses were done by almost every designer.

ANY TRENDS YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US THAT YOU THINK WILL HIT THE CHARLOTTE STORES THIS YEAR?
Lace is going to be a big trend in Charlotte, as well as laser cut-out everything, and pastels.
