Whether you want to shack up cabin fever-style in the mountains or stroll down the charming streets of Charleston with your love, we’ve got a few ideas for romantic retreats to make this Valentine’s Day extra sweet.
Asheville: Contrary to popular belief, it’s not all drum circles and granola crunching in Asheville. The quirky little town has some great restaurants, art and hotels to enjoy. Below are a few suggestions for keeping the romance alive in Asheville. (P.S. – At just two hours away from Charlotte, it’s the perfect Valentine’s weekend locale.)
 Asheville Restaurants:
- LIMONES: Mexi-Cali style restaurant with casual yet inventive food and a huge selection of handcrafted margaritas.
- CURATE: If you’re into tapas and cocktails, this is your spot. The chef, Katie Button, was the first American server to work at the world renowned Spanish restaurant elBulli, dubbed the most famous restaurant in the world.
- EARLY GIRL EATERY: One of the best places to start your day in Asheville is at Early Girl Eatery. The farm-to-table restaurant has some of the best breakfast/brunch offerings in town. Plus, the atmosphere is cheery and charming.
Asheville Hotels:
- GROVE PARK INN: This old world hotel boasts some of the best views of the Blue Ridge mountains. People flock to the Grove Park for treatments at the underground spa and cocktails on the gorgeous patio. Whether you stay there or simply visit, you’re in for a real treat.
- GRAND BOHEMIAN: This eclectic hotel is within walking distance to the Biltmore Estate. The tudor-style hotel may look traditional from the outside, but the inside is anything but ordinary.
- THE BLACK WALNUT:Â Southern hospitality is key at one of Asheville’s most charming bed and breakfasts. The Black Walnut is on the National Register of Historic Buildings and to this day it remains true to its original renderings.
Pinehurst: Your hubs will love the golfing and you’ll love the spas and shopping. Abounding with peace and pines, Pinehurst is the perfect getaway for a couple’s retreat.
Pinehurst Restaurants:
- IRONWOOD:Â This is one of the area’s finest fine dining establishments. It’s the place to go if you’re seeking a good steak. It also boasts one of the best bars in town. The covered and heated outdoor patio has a cozy fire pit, enticing many diners to enjoy dinner and wine outside.
- 195: This American fusion eatery is located in Southern Pines, Pinehurst’s neighboring town (and only a 10 minute drive). Its chef was selected as one of America’s Best Chefs by BCA.  The contemporary interior and modernized menu makes for a sophisticated dinner and lunch spot. If you like to support local farmers while you dine, this is the spot to go.
Pinehurst Hotels:
- THE CAROLINA HOTEL (better known as Pinehurst resort): This historic hotel is the focal point of the town. It features an award-winning spa, tennis courts, golf courses and dining. It’s a must  if you haven’t visited Pinehurst before.
- PINE CREST INN: For a more romantic, charming stay opt for this small bed and breakfast in the heart of downtown Pinehurst. For a private retreat, stay in the cottage which is a cozy freestanding building with its own jacuzzi.
Charleston: Is there anything more romantic than cobblestone streets and horse drawn carriages? Not really. Charleston is not only one of our favorite places to shop and eat, but also our go-to spot for an R&R getaway.
Charleston Restaurants:
- MACINTOSH:Â The Mac is one of the multiple restaurants operated by the Indigo Road restaurant group. Whether you go for brunch or dinner, you’ll have a life changing dining experience. Everything served is seasonal, inventive and refined. After dinner, make sure to visit its upstairs sister lounge, The Cocktail Club.
- THE ORDINARY: There’s nothing like this oyster hall and seafood joint anywhere in Charlotte. Thats why you just have to go when you’re in Charleston. Expect piles of fresh seafood, a chic atmosphere and a warm bar staff. P.S.- They say oysters are an aphrodisiac.
Charleston Hotels:
- ELLIOTT HOUSE INN:Â Â This bed and breakfast is the epitome of charming. It’s located right next to Husk, one of Charleston’s most-famed restaurants and within walking distance to the shops on King street. Opt for breakfast in your room or in the cozy courtyard below. Also, take advantage of the complimentary beach cruisers and ride down to the battery for gorgeous views of the water and old homes.
- FRANCIS MARION HOTEL: If you want to indulge on your V-day weekend, stay at one of Charleston’s oldest landmarks. The Francis Marion exudes Southern sophistication and elegance.
