Have you heard it? Seen it? The giddiness that comes with an unbeatable shopping deal or stellar find… it’s just beginning. Women from Weddington to Mooresville are smiling ear to ear as they save big on designer & brand name wear – sounds heavenly, doesn’t it? Yes, consignment sale season has arrived for the kiddos, teenagers and women. Shopping for nearly new consigned goods has become the thing to do in the Queen City and across the nation.
“Kids consignment sales started in the south over 20 years ago in the world of moms of multiples and as church/school fundraisers. However, the real surge in popularity occurred in the last 3-4 years as niche sales began popping up across the country to meet demand” states Chrissy Freeman, co-founder of ConsignmentMommies.com, the leading national consignment sale and store directory and social networking site on the web. “Seasonal sales became the new “black” and even the trendiest of moms jumped on board. These savvy moms started snatching up name brand name and boutique items that they couldn’t otherwise afford and the industry blossomed.”
All year long, shoppers have the ability to visit favorite consignment stores like SUMMERBIRD, JT Posh and Kid to Kid. But, Spring and Fall bring HUGE opportunities for great shopping at unheard of prices. Thousands of women (some dads) clean out drawers and closets and cash in on items they and their kids no longer use or wear. Many price their items at “I just want it gone†prices and shoppers go crazy.
So how do you get in on these fabulous deals? Get involved. Listen up…
The early bird gets the worm is no joke in the consignment world. If you are looking for a particular item like a Louis Vuitton handbag, Frye boots or a stroller/wagon/bike for your kid, you gotta get in the door early, like before they open to the public. How? Consign, volunteer, purchase a charity pre-sale ticket or pay an early bird fee. Purchasing a ticket is the easiest way, but volunteering is the BEST way because for just 3 or so hours, you can shop before consignors do! Every seasonal consignment sale needs volunteer help, just figure out which one you want to shop at and sign up to volunteer.
How do you figure out which sale is THE BEST in the Charlotte area? There are so many wonderful sales, but we especially love The Upscale Wee Sale in Fort Mill, SC – it’s rated nationally as a Top 10 sale. The sale is huge (600+ families), well organized and has a ton of boutique and brand name items, not to mention the owner is amazing and extremely generous when it comes to giving back to the community.
If you are looking for stylish duds for your kids, Harris YMCA Kids Consignment Sale, Sardis Weekday School Consignment Sale are also great sales in Charlotte.
Shopping for YOU and your teenage daughter? Green Jeans Consignment is THE place to shop for designer and brand name clothing, handbags, shoes, jewelry and accessories for all ages and sizes, including maternity. Two sale locations in SouthPark and Lake Norman. Please note that three other favorites including, CMoms Sale, Posh Closet Sale and Weddington Kids Consignment Sale took place already, but they will be back in the Spring.
Whether you are an educator looking for books/supplies, new expectant parent, mom of many, grandparent in need of baby/kid gear or fashionista looking to spruce up her wardrobe, consignment shopping is definitely the way to go! It’s a beautiful thing… you save money, support a small business, go green by reducing and reusing and most importantly, you support your “neighbors†(those selling their unused items). It’s a win-win for everyone. Here is a listing detailing our favorite upcoming Fall sales (in calendar order), but a complete list can be found at www.consignmentmommies.com, just enter your zip code. Happy shopping!
