Let’s Hang at AIR Aerial Fitness: The newest “it” gym in town (Free classes inside)

Let’s face it: working out is a chore. Necessary? Yes. Exhilarating and enjoyable? Not always the case. If you’re looking for a way to mix up your workout routine and turn it upside down, literally though, you’re in luck. The newest fitness sensation has arrived in Charlotte and it’s just as fun as it looks.

Yep, that's me!
Yep, that’s me!

AIR- Aerial Fitness is a boutique suspension training gym that recently opened up shop in the heart of Myers Park. Its ultra cool space and mystique will get you in the door- but it’s the seriously fun workouts, and incredible results, that will get you to stay. I signed up for a package after my first class and since then, I spend most afternoons and weekend mornings in the silks. I can’t say I’ve ever enjoyed working out more than I do at AIR.

AIR has multiple teachers that have different fitness backgrounds, which results in an array of classes that range from yoga flow type classes to boot camp style workouts. From the photos, it may just look like a bunch of gals flipping upside down, but be forewarned that it’s not all tricks and monkey business. The 50-minute classes are challenging, but not impossible. And of course, instructors always leave a little time in the middle of class and after the workout to try out some tricks in the silks and snap some social media-worthy pics.

In addition to AIR classes, members are also able to take advantage of Pilates and Barre classes offered at the gym. This ensures a healthy mix of cardio and strength training as well as fun, which makes classes easy to stick with.

I know what you’re thinking: “There’s no way I’m gonna be able to get myself up in a silk!” Surprisingly, it doesn’t take magical powers to hang upside down or suspend in the air on a silk. It does take a class or two to get used to the sensation but once you get it, there will be no looking back.  Also, it helps that all of the instructors are super helpful and the atmosphere at AIR anything but stuffy. Members are there to workout hard and have fun, not judge.
