Happy Hour Hair – The Secret To Self-Preservation During the Holidays

I had an EIGHTEEN HOUR day last week, y’all. And the crazy part is, there are many more ahead of me between now and New Years. Shopping, partying, cooking, cleaning, prepping, gifting, decorating, hosting, ugly-sweatering… *insert a cliche “tis the season” comment, etc etc*. But seriously, show of hands? I have a sneaking suspicion I’m not the only woman out there wearing herself completely out right about now.

ANYWAY. I need to take a beat and make sure I don’t run out of steam in the next 2 and a half weeks. And, I’m guessing, so do you.

My number one, fool-proof thing for catching some sanity on the go? Sittin’ myself in that comfy leather chair at Blo and letting those sweet stylists do their magic. BLO BLOW DRY BAR of Charlotte has this fabulous Happy Hour thing going where you are served free champagne/wine while getting your scalp massaged and hair blown out to polished glamour.

The idea of ending a long work-day and starting a sanity-saving girl’s night, or a cardio-filled-shopping-event, or a holiday party, with a little prep hour of toasty heat on your head, an expert massage on your temple, and chilled bubbly on your lips? Now that is just perfection.

Blo will stay open til as late as 8 o’clock for you, if you book it ahead of time. They can’t accept walk-ins after 6pm or between 7am-9am, so you do need to book something. [Aside from that, this time of year they are usually slammed, so despite their general welcome of walk-ins, its def best to book for now]. However, they make it as easy as possible with the BLO app! Here is the app for Apple, and here’s the Google version.

This is the time of year most of us have multiple holiday parties to attend, from obligatory office ones for our selves and/or our spouses, to the boozy fun friend-group ones, to the chatty neighborhood ones. It is amazing how much sexier I feel for these occasions if I get my hair done. Its also an ideal self-indulgent practice for the season of parties, because a good blowout has lasted me up to 4 days of looking and feeling beautiful (definitely thanks to the products they use).

If you are super busy and can’t fathom an evening happy hour, but have a long day ahead of you and a party after work, you might be happier with a 7am blowout. There are even some hair styles, such as Pillow Talk, that actually look best after about 6 hours or so; it gives the curls time to relax, looking effortlessly glam. Also, I’m loving the cool braid styles. You expect them in the Spring/Summer, I think, but with a red holiday lip and sequins, it adds an unexpected and stylish touch right now.

Just writing this, I am seriously jonesing for a some quiet time in the chair at Blo, coming in from the cold to a hot blow-dryer, a glass of champs, and an unbelievable head massage. It would be the best gift to yourself; and if you feel really guilty, you can use the opportunity to pick up a Blo Gift card for someone on your Secret Santa list – it can also be the perf hostess gift, and they come in an adorbs little purse box, so, ixnay wrapping.

Because, you can always do this on the go and still look fab…

…but you can’t always do this:
