A few years ago, I watched a television show in which a well-known celebrity nutritionist was interviewed. Throughout the whole program, I couldn’t stop admiring her beautiful hair and skin, natural glow, and abundant energy.
During the show, she revealed that her beauty and health secret was taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (ACV) each day.
While I was a bit skeptical, I figured that it was still worth a try, and even though I am not exactly ready to walk the runway or anything, the apple cider vinegar has definitely improved my skin and even my digestive issues.
If you aren’t familiar with apple cider vinegar and its many benefits, stick with me.
- ACV helps to clear acne and congested skin when consumed internally because it flushes out the digestive system and removes toxins from the body.
- It can also fight acne when applied topically because it absorbs excess oil and keeps our skin balanced. I like to make my own toner by mixing ACV with water and gently rubbing it all over my face with facial cotton both morning and night.
- It can prevent age spots. Just apply it as a toner like I described above. Talk about a nice and cheap alternative to expensive creams!
- It can give us super shiny hair and a healthy scalp that is pH balanced. Simply massage some ACV into your scalp, leave it on for about 30 minutes, shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Bonus: This also helps if you have dandruff.
- Gargling with some diluted apple cider vinegar can relieve a sore throat, and when done consistently, it can result in whiter brighter teeth.
- It has been credited with speeding up the metabolism and accelerating weight loss.
- Consuming it can even fight pesky sugar cravings.
When using ACV, there are just a couple of things you should keep in mind. First of all, it is extremely acidic, so make sure that you always dilute it with water or even juice before you drink it to protect your throat and stomach.
Secondly, you should only use raw unfiltered ACV, such as my favorite one by Bragg, because you won’t get all of the same benefits by using the pasteurized variety.
Admittedly, drinking apple cider vinegar (even with water or juice) is pretty unpleasant, so I prefer to add it to my homemade salad dressings. It’s a delicious way to get your daily dose of ACV!
