I love living in the Carolinas for so many reasons- the weather, the hospitality, the restaurants, and let’s not forget the peaches. South Carolina simply has the best peaches. “Did you know that South Carolina actually outranks Georgia – “The Peach State” – in its production of peaches? During a normal year, South Carolina grows 60,000 tons of peaches.” Yep. You heard it here first.
While I do enjoy the experience of biting into a ripe, juicy peach, I also try to work peaches into just about every recipe that I make during this time of the year. Cobbler of course, but also in salsas, salads and even pizza.
When shopping for your ingredients, be sure to select peaches that are fragrant and vibrant in color. Some of the best ones can be found at all of the local farmers markets right here in and around Charlotte.
