What To Do & Where To Go Around the Lake (July 23, 2015 Edition)

Friday, July 24 grab your patriotic gear and cheer on four former Navy SEALs and one Vietnam-era veteran as they swim 12.4 miles across Lake Norman to raise awareness about the veteran suicide endemic. The national heroes will start at the Blue Parrott Grill in Mooresville at 10 a.m. and will finish at the Rusty Rudder in Cornelius. There will be an after party at the Rudder starting at 5:30 p.m.

My suggestion for these veterans who will spend their day swimming Lake Norman is to head to the Rural Hill Food Truck Rally because Y’ALL there will be more than 20 of the Charlotte Area’s best food trucks at the farm for a celebration of food, fun and friends. I mean… they’ll be hungry and this party will be killer. It’s from 5:30-9:30 p.m.  The Josh Daniel/Mark Schimick Project will be the musical guests. Attendees will also enjoy  North Carolina Craft Beer and Wine, children’s activities, bounce houses, games, hayrides and more.

The Avant Guardians is a new local theatre company formed by Davidson Alumni aiming to bring exciting contemporary work to the Lake Norman community. Its first production is the regional premiere of BULL, a dark comedy by British playwright Mike Bartlett. The play explores the psychological implications of office politics and the lengths we must go to in order to be successful. Due to some explicit language and content, the show is recommended for ages 15+. The show will be at The Warehouse Performing Arts Center. For show times and to buy tickets click here.

Mooresville Public Library will be hosting its 4th annual Local Author Showcase Saturday, July 25. Meet and greet with authors of all genres from Mooresville and across North Carolina. Books will be available for purchase. The event is free of charge. I’ve seen various reports about what time it actually starts. Some posts say 10 a.m. and others say 11. I say get brunch in Downtown Mooresville and then meander to the Library around 11:30 a.m.
