Garden Nights Sip and Paint

Jump start a fun weekend by joining the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens’ Sip and Paint event this Thursday. As part of their summer Garden Nights series, this fun painting class includes wine, light snacks and a painting lesson. There will even be childcare available on-site!
Science on the Rocks

Discovery Place
If this time of year has you feeling nostalgic for the smell of new books and freshly sharpened pencils, make your way to Discovery Place’s Science on the Rocks event on Friday. The adults-only night at the museum will feature some flashbacks of the good old days from picture day to field day and even a new twist on a spelling bee. They’re also partnering with Classroom Central to collect school supplies for this in need in our area. Donate a new or unopened item from their donation list for a free gift (while supplies last).
Charlotte 48 Hour Film Project: Night of Screenings

McGlohon Theatre
A few weeks ago, the Charlotte 48 Hour Film Project had nearly 200 artists and filmmakers came together to create seven minute films in teams. They were assigned a genre, a character name, a line of dialogue and a prop. Come see the result in this weekend’s screening event of the 24 films. There are two showings: 2:45 p.m. and 6:35 p.m.

The 6th Annual 10K OrthoCarolina Classic is a great way to lace up for some great causes. After you run (or support from afar), enjoy food trucks and a beer garden from some of Charlotte’s favorite breweries. Guys with Ties presents: 6th Annual Casino Night

The Design Center of the Carolinas
Craps, Roulette, Blackjack, Texas Hold’em…Don’t worry, it’s all for a good cause. This night of Vegas-style gaming is hosted by Guys with Ties and benefits the Hospitality House of Charlotte. Roll up your sleeves and try your luck at casino style games, raffles and contests and a silent auction. Attendees will also enjoy an open bar, refreshments, dancing and a DJ. Tour de Turns

Start and end at Foxcroft Shopping Center
Help turn the corner on local hunger by riding in or volunteering for the Tour de Turns this weekend. For riders, there are four course options: 15, 25, 37 and 62 mile routes. The route is kept cool by shady trees, so you won’t have to worry about braving the August heat. 100% of proceeds go to Friendship Trays, Friendship Gardens and Friendship Kitchen Catering.
Walk A Mile in Her Shoes 2015

Talk about a sight to see. Men trying to navigate their way around in women’s high heels. While it may be funny to picture, the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march raises awareness of serious issues: the realities of rape, sexual assault and domestic violence. The event raises money that support the programs and services of Safe Alliance.
Party in the Park-Last chance for Summer!

Hurry up and get to Uptown’s beloved mid-week party before it packs up for summer! This week the crowd will be groovin’ to the sounds of The North Tower Band, one of the South’s great party bands for over 35 years. Prepare to hear your favorite oldies, beach music jams, top 40 hits and a little bit of funk.
