What To Do & Where To Go Around the Lake (August 27, 2015 Edition)

To kick off our weekend around the lake, y’all must check out a fundraising event for Charlotte Bridge Home at Fox & Hound Thursday, Aug. 27. The event is free, open to the public, and 10% of sales from the entire day will go directly to the organization to support local veterans and their transitions back to civilian life post-deployment through education, employment and healthcare services. From 5-8 p.m. all guests are invited to enjoy complimentary sampling of Fox & Hound’s signature dishes.

The Wine Cellar features four new wines every week at its Thursday Wine Tastings. From 7-9 p.m. enjoy extra special tastings : 4 new wines, hand picked from all over the world, and sometime smaller productions or artisan wineries. Check it out and discover your new favorite wine! And don’t forget the offer nibbles like cheese plates, french sandwiches and desserts too!

The Serenity House in Mooresville will host is annual yard and bake sale Friday, Aug. 28 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale supports its efforts to provide quality end-of-life care to the Lake Norman area. Special treasures will include household items, office supplies, art and craft supplies, pool supplies, toiletries, building supplies, decorative and miscellaneous items.

Family fun for one all and all will be the name of the game at Movies at the Park in North Mecklenburg Park Friday, Aug. 28. The feature film is The Lego Movie. There will also be bounce houses, food trucks, free popcorn and drinks, and even two chances to win one night at the Great Wolf Lodge. Gates open at 6 p.m., the movie starts at sunset, and the entry fee is free.

The Joy Women’s Conference is getting a ton of buzz around town, so be sure to check it. Friday, Aug. 28 join Davidson Day School and Amy Spurlock for an evening of inspiration. You will hear from four women who have incredible stories of struggle, abuse, defeat and how they began to live a life of joy and peace. If you have tried everything….clothes, purses, property, cars, books, counseling, seminars, relationships and NOTHING has worked, join the ladies for a night of love, encouragement and change. The event starts at 7 p.m., is free, and you can get a pass here.

ICE Martini Bar invites you to get your disco groove on Friday, Aug. 28 at its 70’s Party. It starts at 9 p.m. and DJ Bob starts at 10 p.m. spinning the tunes. ICE stays open until 2 a.m. so you’ll have plenty of time to party away!

Consign on a Dime hosts its 5 year anniversary this weekend and you’re invited. Saturday, Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. they store that offers the Lake’s finest furniture consignments will also be offering extra special savings and refreshments. We can’t wait to see what you discover!

Parks & Recreation Departments from Cornelius, Davidson & Huntersville in cooperation with the National Football League will host the NFL Punt, Pass, & Kick event for boys and girls ages 8 to 15 at Huntersville Athletic Field Saturday, Aug. 29. Local winners will have the opportunity to compete at a Sectional Championship in October and possibly advance to the Team Championships at a Carolina Panthers game in November.  Registration is free and will be accepted onsite the day of the competition starting at 8:30 am. A photocopy of each contestant’s birth certificate is required at the time of registration. No cleats, only tennis shoes, are allowed at the competition.

Carolina Big Heart’s Big Bark launches its new rescue at Lucky Dog Bark & Brew Saturday, Aug. 29 with a  Rib Fest. The yumminess starts at 4 p.m. and goes until 7 p.m. Donations are encouraged as you eat and vote for your favorite ribs.
