The weather is finally cooling off, and you’re itching for a weekend getaway. Have you thought about Savannah? This charming southern city is less than a four hour drive from Charlotte and has so much to offer including food, shopping, and sights.
Eat:
One of the best parts about Savannah is that you can ditch your car as soon as you arrive. Saunter around the beautiful neighborhoods or jump on a trolley and relax while you get a tour of the entire city. You do not want to miss the plethora of amazing restaurants the city has to offer. If you’re craving craft cocktails on a quaint patio, stop by Treylor Park and be sure to try the illegally blonde cocktail. For upscale dining that doesn’t disappoint, hit Local 11ten and order the mussels to share. Brunch in this city is just as good as dinner, so don’t head home without it. Collins Quarter is a charming and bustling spot for brunch with unforgettable smashed avocado toast—yum. Whether you like comfort food or upscale dining, Savannah has it all.
Shop:
Shop SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) is a do not miss for shopping. The school has a wonderful influence on the city and you’ll love their one-of-a-kind selection of stationery, jewelry, and handbags. Speaking of bags, Satchel is another gem. Shop their luxurious leather bags that are all made in house or design your own. You can completely customize your own bag (think longer strap, color of the lining, multiple pockets, etc) and the prices are very reasonable. If you’re looking for a great boutique while in town, Harper is it. They carry killer accessories and clothing that any modern woman would want in her closet. Last, but not least, The Paris Market. The moment that you step into this well-lit, beautiful space, you will feel as though you have been transported directly to Paris. This store is filled with treasures from all over the world; art, furniture, books and jewelry just to name a few.
See:
Take your time and stroll around Forsyth Park. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and it’s a perfect spot to people watch. Just a short walk from Forsyth is Chippewa Square, which is where the famous bench scenes from Forrest Gump were filmed. Although it can get touristy, be sure and head over to the Waterfront. Grab yourself a praline at Savannah’s Candy Kitchen and peruse work from local artists and musicians.
Stay:
Splurge on the ultra-modern Brice hotel. It’s located one block off the river and the amenities are impressive. Enjoy daily complementary wine hour with hand-picked pours that are selected by the house sommelier. You can also enjoy an in-room luxury spa treatment, or lounge by their gorgeous pool that offers adult-only hours from 8-10am. Just be warned. You may be tempted to pack your bags and move after the weekend.
