Can’t you just feel Black Friday and Cyber Monday on the horizon? It’s no accident that #GivingTuesdayCLT happens right after these two mega-shopping days. After getting great deals and knocking out some of your holiday shopping, it just feels good to do something good. And only better when it directly benefits the Charlotte community at large.
Giving Tuesday started four years ago as a joint project between by New York’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. It quickly went global as countries around the world welcomed the idea of a day devoted to giving back, after the consumerism and commercialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
This year Giving Tuesday happens on December 1st, but you don’t need to wait until then to get involved. With over 108 nonprofits participating, there are a number of ways to give back to the community and help Share Charlotte reach the goal of raising $2 million for the community. Here are several ways you can jump in and help locally right now:
– Buy paint for preschoolers at Charlotte Bilingual Preschool so they can explore and create.
– Volunteers get boo boos too, particularly when they’re working with, you know, birds of prey. Send some first aid love to the folks at Carolina Raptor Center.
– Kids undergoing chemotherapy and other medical treatments spend hours in the hospital. Help Heart Meter give them video games to provide them with a welcome distraction.
– It takes 400-700 volunteers help maintain Carolina the Thread Trail each year. That’s a lot of sunscreen. Help them stock up for next year.
– Catch a Checkers game with us. The Charlotte Checkers are supporting #GivingTuesdayCLT through online tickets sales for the game on November 25. Use this link to buy tickets and use passcode: sharecharlotte.
