What’s the Deal with The Produce Box? Find out with $5 off membership now.

You may have heard about The Produce Box from a neighbor or friend, since there are lots of Neighborhood Coordinators for this fresh produce delivery business here in Charlotte. Or maybe you read about it on a blog or news site. Or maybe you are asking yourself right now….wait, what Produce Box? We’ve got both the scoop and a discount for you here.

The Produce Box delivers to members each week a box of fresh, local produce and specialty artisan products like meats, cheeses and breads from local makers. The Produce Boxes are delivered to homes and offices all over North Carolina, to the company’s nearly 10,000 members.

The main benefit? They bring the farmer’s market to your door. Including ~ drumroll ~ to your OFFICE.

So if you’d love to have the time to go to the Farmer’s Market each week, but usually find yourself swinging by the Teeter closest to sports practice, daycare, or your house, then I’m thinking The Produce Box is for you.

Here’s how it works.  You sign on as a member ($18 a year, although you get $5 off with our discount code below).

You register an email so you can receive a weekly ordering menu every Friday to that email. You order online by Sunday night (or you just go with your default box ’cause you know whatever you get will be the best of seasonal and local, and half the fun is the surprise).  Your produce is picked on Monday and Tuesday, and delivered right to your doorstep either Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday by your neighborhood coordinator.

So convenient, and so many options. You can choose what you want to order from a weekly menu of what’s in season and ready to be picked. Prices per box per week range from $24 to $27+, your cost goes up if you choose to add or switch out to some more expensive items. This week, the deliveries include things like lettuce, Easter Egg Radish, Kale, Strawberries, Organic Sweet Potatoes, Green Beans, Apple Cider and more:

The Produce Box Seasonal Selection

You decide how big a delivery you need, and you can update that online as your household’s needs change. Like when you have plans for dinner out 3 nights next week, or the kids go to summer camp, or your in-laws come to stay.  All selections and changes need to be made by Sunday at 9pm for the upcoming week. If no selections are made, you receive your default box. Which will be one of these below, depending on the size of your household, how adventurous you want to be, and whether you prefer to build your own box from the weekly selection or go with the standards picked by the company:

Again, you can change your order and box size / type weekly if that’s what you want to do. And you don’t have to order every week – it’s easy to skip a week if you need to. Just update your account online by Sunday 9 pm.

The Produce Box delivery

The Produce Box was started by a North Carolina stay at home mom who wanted to feed her family fresh, whole foods and eat local but found it to be really inconvenient to do so. She started this business in her garage and it has now grown statewide, expanding to Charlotte last summer. Their mission is to help their members support over 50 local farmers and give back to their communities.
