Imagine living alongside a rushing river and miles of wooded walking trails. You could get up for a peaceful sunrise hike before heading to work and have a cold beer on the porch when you get home. Picture the ultimate escape from the Rat Race, only a short commute from uptown. It’s a reality that’s coming to life in Masons Bend, a one-of-a-kind community currently being constructed near Fort Mill.
Masons Bend is all about living every day like you’re on vacation. Homes there will feature large front porches perfect for watching the kids play and visiting with neighbors. Built in close proximity to the Anne Springs Close Greenway for biking and hiking, with nearby pocket parks for neighborhood picnics and more. It may feel like a peaceful retreat a million miles from the big city, but it’s only about 20 minutes from uptown (and even less from Ballantyne).
If you know any outdoor lovers who are house-hunting, tell them about Masons Bend and instantly become their most savvy friend ever. For while the setting for Masons Bend is all about the nature, the homes being built there are deluxe, with carefully chosen architectural styles to complement the land and make the neighborhood feel as if it has always been there. We chatted with Crescent Communities, a well known land developer, and they told us that homes are being framed right now by three of Charlotte’s premier builders: Saussy Burbank, The Cunnane Group Inc. and Fielding Homes. Model and spec homes should be open this summer, and homes will be available for pre-sale in June and July (the price point will be from the high $300s – $500s).
The idea behind Masons Bend is to create an outdoor-centric community that feels much broader than just your individual home on your lot.
Masons Bend features miles and miles of trails, including a section that cuts through Quarry Glen, a park with gorgeous views of the Catawba River on one side and a huge rock face on the other. A portion of the community’s trails are part of the famed Carolina Thread Trail. Planned for Summer 2018, Masons Bend’s amenity center and swimming pool (with riverfront views) will be the hub of the property, where the entire community can come together to swim, barbecue and enjoy the setting. See more about their amenities here.
The community is also in a prime location — just 20 minutes from uptown and a stone’s throw away from adorable downtown Fort Mill. Got kids? Masons Bend is located in the top-rated Fort Mill School District.

History of the site
Before this stretch of land became Masons Bend, it served as a backdrop for a working river, whose banks were farmed, waters were fished and woods were hunted. Early on it was an important trading center, famed for its pottery and baskets, and eventually this spot (literally) became a powerful location. The quarry located on Masons Bend provided the stone to build the Lake Wylie dam. Tracks allowed carts to truck the raw materials to the build site, and the result brought power and vitalization to the entire area. Today you can still see drill marks in the bare stone, walk along the railroad beds and search for pieces of century-old coal along the river. Historical info found here.
