Dysport vs Botox ~ Did I See a Difference?

First off, let’s get a couple of housekeeping details out of the way.

  1. Yes, I get Botox® a few times a year to treat the wrinkles, nay furrows, in my brow. They come from all the THINKING.
  2. For the uninitiated, Botox® is “freezer” not a filler, and movie stars to do not get Botox to puff up their lips. {If I had a dollar for every time someone said that to me.}
  3. Dysport® is pronounced “dis”port not “dye”sport. Or so they tell me. It’s from England you know.
  4. I am telling you all of this because we have the scoop on a Dysport giveaway going right now, that you can read about HERE.

Recently, scoop client Hunstad Kortesis Plastic Surgery & Med Spa offered me a free trial of Dysport to compare the two, as I have been getting Botox injections to relax the lines between my brows since before you were born. Both Dysport® and Botox® are botulinum toxin type A proteins and work in a similar fashion. What got my attention was that some people who have been using Botox for a long time have reported seeing increased effectiveness with a change to Dysport.

I did a bit of research ~ this is my favorite comparative review of the pros and cons of both products. Essentially, Dysport has a smaller carrier protein than Botox. This is supposed to allow for more & faster spread of the toxin after injection. Which comes with pluses and minuses, since for big treatment areas that means fewer injections / less pain. But for tight areas where precision is required, that may not be preferable.

The main thing I learned was that I need to be sure to go with the best, most practiced injector possible. So I presented my furrowed brow to Dr. Bharti at Hunstad Kortesis SouthPark and gave it a few weeks to take full effect.

My conclusion? The Dysport does seem to have smoothed things out more than my last few Botox injections. Granted, I only get them a couple of times a year, so it’s been a while between treatments. But, I did ask the doc last year to increase the “dose” as I found that Botox was not smoothing out my brow wrinkles as much as it used to.  I attributed that, like all my woes, to my age. But now, I’m not sure.

I will definitely go for the Dysport again, next time. So mission accomplished Hunstad Kortesis. I’m a convert.
