Whether you’re an Uptown lunch-breaker clutching a slice on your way back to the office, or a Ballantyne mama grabbing dinner for little ones on-the-go, there’s a pizza place for every taste and need in the Queen City.
No matter what you are looking for, when you are craving it, or whatever your pizza mission, we’ve got you covered:
A lunchtime grab and go
Take a stroll through Latta Arcade to get to one of Uptown’s best lunch spots for grab and go slices. Pie in the Sky serves up traditional New York style pizza slices, calzones and stromboli. The lunch special (a popular pick) will have you in, out and on your way in a New York minute.
One you can pass off as homemade
Here’s what you really want to know: how to serve pizza that looks homemade but doesn’t require turning on your oven. Our top picks are from Pasta & Provisions, they just brought back their Margherita Pizza with fresh tomatoes and mozzerella, and Portofino’s Ristorante Italiano e Pizzeria‘s classic and specialty options.
Upscale delivery
If you’re in the Uptown, Plaza Midwood or Elizabeth neighborhoods, complete your summer cookout with a 10 or 16 inch Grilled Veggie or Margherita Pizza delivered right to your backyard from Intermezzo Pizzeria and Cafe. Add one of there fresh salads to make it a complete meal-no dishwasher required. Order online or by phone (704) 347-2626.
Pizza Food Trucks
Who says good pizza can’t come from an oven on wheels? When you’re out and about in Charlotte, look for food trucks like Papa Libretto’s Street Pizza Food Truck, most recently spotted at your favorite brewery and Matthews Food Truck Fridays. Search out Vito’s Pizza, a corporate park frequent parker, for their authentic Brooklyn style pies cooked right behind the wheel. Or grab a slice from Wingzza at Food Truck Fridays in South End.
For a catering experience that will satisfy everyone’s taste buds, ask TRUE Crafted Pizza about Big Red, the antique truck turned authentic Italian pizza oven on wheels. Perfect for rehearsal dinners, birthday parties and corporate functions, Big Red pulls up, fires up the built in 42 inch wood-fire oven and turns out a buffet of pies for you and your guests.
Gourmet & High End Pies
Pizza cravings don’t let up just because you’re having a sophisticated girl’s night out. Indulge in what we’re calling “fancy-pants pizza” with flatbreads and wine at Vintner Wine Market, where you have nine choices ranges from Chicken Pesto to Buffalo Blue. Start off with the pizza at Elizabeth’s Carpe Diem featuring house-made naan, roasted cauliflower and merguez sausage, or snack on a decadent flatbread topped with truffle whipped goat cheese and pistachio pesto at Soul Gastrolounge. Other spots where you’ll find flatbreads to accommodate your vino or brews are Heist Brewery, offering six options, Myers Park favorite Stagioni’s (cut it with scissors) and Foxcroft Wine Co.

A good old crowd pleaser
Some nights, the goal is just to feed everyone without a fuss. On those nights, take the family to one of Charlotte’s two Pizza Peel & Tap Room locations. Their menu offers 14 specialty pizzas, a build-your-own option, and a huge non-pizza menu with everything from tacos to a black bean sandwich.
Your weekday fix – a full pizza meal for just $9
Pop in Luisa’s Brick Oven Pizzeria between meetings for an unbeatable deal. Feast on their lunch buffet of pizzas, pasta, salads and a drink for just $9. Served 11 am- 2pm Monday-Friday.
After Hours Pizza
Fight any morning-after headaches by fueling up on a slice that’s so big it spills over the plate at Benny Pennello’s in NoDa. Open until 3 am on Friday and Saturday, Benny’s serves up classics and monthly specials by the slice or whole 28-inch pie.
Around the corner neighborhood feel
On any given night, Hawthorne’s New York Pizza and Bar is spilling over with lively families and friends out enjoying the patio. When you’re craving pizza in your ‘hood, build your own or truly indulge in the neighborhood feel with the Elizabeth Special: Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Mushrooms, Bell Peppers, White Onions And Mozzarella.
Something “outside the pie”
When you’re craving the familiar with a flair, try out these two picks. In the Metropolitan, Pizzeria Omaggio serves up a huge menu of pizza options, from classics to a selection of eight white pizzas. You can also build your own or choose from their selection of Italian sandwiches, soups, pastas and desserts.
At Revolution Ale House, take your craft beer with a side of craft pizza as you choose from unique pairings like The Drunken Goat ( a white pie with pepper jack, caramelized onion, corned beef, goat cheese and a sweet beer glaze) and The Curry Chicken (a white pie with mozzarella, pineapple, green pepper, caramelized onion, grilled chicken and a curry sauce).
Tried and true
When the crew is on the hunt for pizza, these local picks will never disappoint. Take a trip to one of Charlotte’s Mellow Mushroom locations (our favorite is the patio in Myers Park). Another tried and true is Fuel Pizza, where their famous red sauce is the base for house favorites like the Sun-Dried Tomato & Pesto and The Whole Engine.
And when you’re specifically craving…
Deep Dish
Short of a Chicago style pizza, we’ve heard the next best thing is Jet’s deep dish pizza crust. Take one to-go from their location on Montford Drive.
Thin crust
For the thin crust lovers, dine in the cozy ambiance of Mama Ricotta’s with their thin crust pies baked in their wood-fired oven. Another must-try for crispy crust is Brixx, whether its with one of their classics or a unique style.
A make your own style
South End’s new neighbor, Blaze, is a Chop’t meets Chipotle where you can truly create your own pie from the crust up. Step up to the counter at Zablong in Uptown, where you can choose from an array of doughs, sauces, cheeses, veggies, finishes and infused oils.
Gluten free goodness
For our gluten free and gluten sensitive friends, we’ve got you covered. Chow down on gluten free crusts from places you already know and love: Fuel Pizza, Blaze, Zablong, Revolution Ale House and Mellow Mushroom.
Feel-good ingredients
In Myers Park, Zio Casual Italian takes fresh to a whole new level with a garden out back filled with the herbs and vegetables that eventually top Zio’s grilled or New York style pizzas.
