If you remember, ScoopTheLake went on an exercise kick a few weeks back (you can read about it here) and tried all the best barre classes in LKN. We mentioned in the Barre-Hop post there was a new class at Pure Barre Birkdale called Platform. I finally recovered enough from my week of barre to give it a try. Here’s the scoop:
Pure Barre Platform takes the basic movements and principles of regular PB and amps it up with an aerobic step, bigger movements, and a faster pace. I arrived a little early and luckily grabbed a spot by the mirror (easier for first-timers) and a class regular (who I tried to copy the whole time). No tubes or little red ball – just light weights and the step.
After a fast warm-up on the floor, we went to the barre to continue the warm-up at a higher intensity.(I was already sweating at this point) Then in typical Pure Barre fashion, we moved to thigh work then seat work. The class moved at a fast pace and included your usual squeezes and tucks as well as high leg lifts and jumps. We finished on the mat for abs and stretching.
This class is great if you love the movements in Pure Barre but crave more cardio and really getting your heart rate up. If you like step aerobics – this is also the class for you. Platform is more challenging for newbies and while taking a regular class isn’t a requirement, it definitely helps to have some basic knowedge of PB moves and technique.
You still have the same great music, instructors and positive energy that makes Pure Barre so popular at the lake.
