Gluten Free Thrills in Charlotte

Gluten Free? Yes please. Here’s my inside Scoop for eating and drinking GF around the Queen City.

Ballantyne

• Burger 21 – With an award-winning GF menu available upon request, this burger joint is a must try. They specialize in Angus Beef, Seafood, Veggie, Turkey and Chicken Burgers – All cooked to order.
• Earth Fare – An upscale grocery store that carries GF Breads, Cookies, Crackers and Salad Dressings. Plenty of ingredients for you to make a GF masterpiece at home.
• Famous Toastery Ballantyne – Offering GF Flap Jacks AND French Toast. Need I say more? Oh, and they have GF Bread for Sandwiches.
• Pei Wei – A fun Asian Diner with a small GF Menu that offers GF Asian Chopped Chicken Salad, GF Vietnamese Chicken Salad Rolls and GF Edamame for munching.

Dilworth / South End

• Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar – A local Burger chain that has a separate GF Menu with lots of options. You can find them in both Dilworth & Ballantyne. If you venture north they also have locations in Huntersville, Mooresville, Raleigh and Winston-Salem.
• Blaze Pizza – Fast-Fire’d Custom Artisanal Pizzas that offer GF Crust & Toppings. They have an assembly line where you can pick any and all toppings for your Pizza Pie. Once you have added every topping your heart desires, your Pizza is cooked (right before your eyes) in their BLAZING hot ovens for 180 seconds.
• Crispy Crepe – They offer GF Crepe batter, so the possibilities are endless here, folks. Savory or Sweet, they’ve got you covered.
• Luna’s Living Kitchen – Plant-based cuisine, locally sourced and crafted with love. Specializing in GF, vegan & raw dishes.
• Tupelo Honey Café – Fresh, scratch made Southern comfort food. Yum. They have organic & GF options, including GF Omission Beer.

Elizabeth

• Bang Bang Burgers – Awesome Angus Beef Burgers served on GF Buns (made by a local baker) or (bread-less) Burger Bowls.
• Bean Vegan Cuisine – A 100% vegan friendly restaurant that has plenty of GF options and they also serve an impressive Thanksgiving Dinner.
• Nothing but Noodles – With so many GF choices, you NEED to check this place out. They have a separate GF menu that offers Soups, Salads, Pastas and a GF Kids Menu.
• Pasta & Provisions – A traditional Italian deli & grocery store tucked away here in Charlotte. Try their Prosciutto wrapped Melons and you’ll feel like you’ve been whisked away to a small village across the sea. They also have Gluten Free Pasta, marvelous.
• Viva Chicken – GF Peruvian Chicken, I can’t explain how much I love this establishment. They indicate vegetarian and GF items straight on their menu so you know exactly what to order.

NoDa

• Amelie’s French Bakery – This adorable French Bakery and Cafe offers a plethora of GF menu items. GF Bread allows you to choose from an array of Sandwiches; they also have GF Soups, GF Salted Caramel Brownies, Macaroons, Almond Tea Cake and much more.
• Davidson Street Public House – A cozy little Tapas Establishment with a friendly atmosphere and lots of good fare. When you’re beer hopping with your friends around NoDa, take a break from Ciders and have a tall glass of GF IPA at this pub.
• Revolution Ale House – A fabulous Pizza joint that offers GF Crust and Vegan options. With daily specials and 44 beers on tap, they never disappoint.
• Smelly Cat Coffee – A funky little coffee shop with Free wifi, coffee and GF snacks. Stop by and experience the NoDa neighborhood with local artwork on display and board games to play with your friends and/or neighbors.

South Park

• Café Monte – A high quality French fare restaurant with beautiful dishes and affordable prices. They offer a separate GF Menu with lots of options and are committed to providing their guests with the freshest ingredients at exceptional value.
• Green Flute Café – A dedicated GF Restaurant open for lunch, dinner and also offers catering. Owners are a lovely husband and wife couple – check out their daily specials on their instagram. You can eat EVERYTHING on the entire menu, no special menu needed.
• Paco’s Tacos & Tequila – Authentic Tex-Mex dining with tons of GF Options. They have a friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff who will happily assist you in ordering a GF meal.
• Rooster’s at Southpark – One of my favorite Southern restaurants that offers a separate GF menu. They have a seasonally-inspired menu and source their ingredients from local farmers. That’s a win-win in my book.
• The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar – They display GF and vegetarian options right on their menu so you know exactly what you can order. They even have GF Sushi and GF Soy Sauce.

Uptown

• Amelie’s French Bakery – Uptown is their newest location filled with GF delights. I can’t say enough good things about this place, go enjoy their GF treats now.
• BLT Steak – An upscale American Steakhouse with a separate GF menu that boasts lots of options. Date night? Go here.
• Carolina Ale House – Want to get a beer after work? Head on over to this Ale House that offers a GF Beer selection. They also have a separate GF Menu with Appetizer and Entrée options.
• Fahrenheit – GF with an phenomenal view of the Queen City. I would also recommend this establishment for a date night. Chef Rocco Whalen is a culinary wizard; his inventive American cuisine is a must try.
• Uncle Maddio’s Pizza Joint – A local pizza chain that offers GF Pizza, made your way. Their pizza has 3 different dough options (including GF), 6 different sauce options and over 45 different cheese, meat and vegetable toppings. Bring the kids here, they’ll love it.
