If lower income children can’t continue to learn through the summer, they fall behind their higher income peers. By the end of third grade, lower income children are typically two to three years behind in reading, due in large part to summer learning loss. Without significant intervention many will never catch up.
Freedom School Partners promotes the long-term success of children by preventing summer learning loss through igniting a passion for reading and inspiring a love of learning. They do this by working with children in Charlotte who most need but can least afford summer literacy opportunities. Freedom School 2017 will be held June 19 – July 27.
Again this spring, several hundred friends of Freedom School will gather to celebrate and support their cause – not just financially but with the passion of a community united behind the most fragile families among us. Please join us for an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a conversation about the impact of Freedom Schools in Charlotte:
