The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and local farms are letting us pick our own fresh fruit to take home and enjoy throughout the weeks.
If you’re wondering where to “pick your own” in and around Charlotte, you’ve come to the right place. We found all the local farms offering up tasty produce for you to take home, and some of the opening dates are starting super soon. Start planning your farm frolicking because strawberry season is approaching!
Just remember: Call these farms before you go to ensure they are offering you-pick on that day. Sometimes weather conditions change the availability of the crops. Also be sure to ask whether or not containers are provided. If you need to bring your own, bring a cooler or something similar.
Local Pick-Your-Own Farms and Opening Dates
Carrigan Farms

Opening date:Â Open year-round depending on activity. Strawberry picking this year starts in May.
What’s in season: Asparagus in mid-April and strawberries in May.
Know before you go:Â Cash or check only. You can also buy fresh asparagus and lettuce while picking your own strawberries.

What’s in season: Strawberries
Know before you go: There is no charge to visit the farm. While you’re there, enjoy a wagon ride through the woods ($2), barrel train rides $2) and free playgrounds, zip lines and animal visits. Sorry no dogs are allowed on the farm due to food safety rules. You can also snack on Wise Pie Pizza, served Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.am. – 5 p.m. during the season. The farm is USDA Certified Organic.
Hall Family Farm

What’s in season: Strawberries
Know before you go: U-pick strawberries are $2.39 per pound and $3.19 per pound for pre-picked. The farm also offers hayrides, kids activities and refreshments for sale. No admission charge.
This is your last chance to pick-your-own strawberries at Hall Family Farm at their current location. In March 2019 the farm was sold to Novant Health and the owners plan to relocate and anticipate reopening in Lancaster County.

What’s in season: Strawberries are available for u-pick and by the carton. Peaches and blackberries will be in-season in the summer months. Garden produce is also available for sale.

Opening date: We open in mid-April with strawberries and are open until Halloween. After strawberries, summer brings blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, and vegetables.
What’s in season: Strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries, beginning in April and running through summer.

The Hunter Farm
