Uptown Pops is Friday 6/9 at Romare Bearden, with Lots of Music You Know and Love, Plus Food Trucks.

The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra is performing a free Uptown Pops Concert featuring Sounds from the Stage and Screen on Friday, June 9th at Romare Bearden Park.

When:  Friday, June 9, 2017, concert begins 8:15 p.m. – 9:15 p.m., food trucks in place starting at 6 p.m.

Where:  Romare Bearden Park, 300 S. Church Street Charlotte, N.C. 28202 

 The Uptown Pops concert, featuring music from the theater and the silver screen, is sponsored by Bank of America and free to the public. Everyone is encouraged to come out as early as 6 p.m. and choose dinner from any of the five food trucks located along 3rd Street, and enjoy a muscial picnic in the park.

The orchestra will perform popular songs from classical to pops and film favorites, including John Williams hits from E.T. and The Cowboys, a medley of Puccini opera favorites, Richard Rodgers selections from the musicals Carousel and The Sound of Music, and music made popular by Bugs Bunny.

Confirmed food trucks for Uptown Pops are: 

  • The Dumping Lady – locally and regionally famous dumplings and noodle dishes, Szechuan family recipes
  • Ole Buddy’s Oinker Express – hand-breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches—a real taste of the Midwest
  • The Moroccan Cookbook – savory pastries with beef, chicken, veggies or seafood, kabob sandwiches, wraps, authentic Moroccan dishes
  • Rollin’ – taco rolls, bacon blue cheese burger…a fusion of cultures in a wrap or crispy roll—even a strawberry cheesecake roll
  • Street Spice International – “global street food”; sliders with Cajun, Hawaiian, Brazilian, Middle Eastern, Jamaican flavors, Mexican street corn
  • Kona Ice – dozens of flavors of shaved ice

“This is the 4th year Bank of America, Charlotte Center City Partners and the Charlotte Symphony have partnered to bring Uptown Pops to Romare Bearden Park”, said Robert Krumbine, Chief Creative Officer for Charlotte Center City Partners. “This is always an enjoyable, family-friendly evening, and this year’s musical line-up with music by John Williams, Richard Rogers, Puccini and more is sure to please.” 

 

The Charlotte Symphony will feature guest conductor Keitaro Harada, who is in his second season as Associate Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Pops. Last season, Harada was invited to the prestigious Mahler Competition in Germany and made his conducting debut in Japan with the New Japan Philharmonic in a sold-out performance as well as his debut with Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
