Running in Charlotte in the summer is hot, humid, and really hard. Don’t let the summer heat get the best of you and ruin your running goals though! Instead invest in these must-haves to make summer running in Charlotte more enjoyable.
NUUN
These little guys are a life-saver! They are refreshing and so delicious. Add one tablet to 12 ounces of water before, during, or after a run to rehydrate with electrolytes and vitamins, without the added sugar sports drinks include. I like to drink mine after a sweaty run if I am running less than 60 minutes. If I plan to run longer than an hour, I’ll preload with one as well. Whole Foods, Charlotte Running Company, Run For Your Life, and Nuun.com all sell a variety of flavors.
Nike Breathe Cool Running Tank
Have you ever finished a run and your shirt is completely drenched in sweat and sticking to every inch of your body? It is the worst. Luckily, Nike made these shirts to avoid that issue. They are almost weightless and made of Dri-Fit so you remain dry and comfortable throughout your run. You will feel like you are running without a shirt, but with the comfort and security of actually wearing a shirt!
A Visor
A good running visor will help keep the sun off your face, which will keep you cooler and not sunburnt. I typically run in hats but prefer visors in the summer because hats trap heat and make it feel hotter than it already is. Stick with a light color to avoid added heat from the sun, but make sure the under visor is non-glare or dark so the sun doesn’t bounce back onto your face. Brands like Nike, Under Armor, Adidas, and Brooks Running all make great options.
Amphipod High-Five K Hydration Waistpack
Staying hydrated during the summer heat is very important but if you are anything like me, there is not a chance you will run with a water bottle in your hand. That’s why this hydration belt is so great! It is very light, packs 16 ounces of water, and has a fuel pouch for longer training runs.
While all of these items will help make running more bearable during the summer months, always be sure to listen to your body and give it what it needs.
Happy Running Charlotte!
