Modest dressing is now officially trending, and we’re seeing it in the magazines, blogs and around town. Take a look at this article from The New York Times on the topic.
You may be wondering, what exactly is a Modest Dressing Movement?
It’s a sea-change from decades past ~ the Look To Wear Now is no longer about “If you’ve got it, flaunt it.” It’s all about sexy looks taking a step back, with covered up looks taking the lead. Blouses and high necked, long sleeves dresses are key, as are longer hems, chunky over-sized sweaters, layers for cover, wide-legged and high-waisted pants. Even black tie and cocktail wear is getting all covered up. It’s all part of the growing modest movement in the fashion world. We are seeing more and more celebrities, red carpet gals, socialites and fashionistas styling with “the less skin showing – the better”. And this is not just for the older but wiser women; women of all ages are starting to follow this trend, making an ostentatious display of bare skin look passé and almost frumpy. It does look like this trend will last past fall/winter 2017, so we will be keeping our eyes out and our décolletage covered.
If you haven’t yet jumped on board with this movement, the Charlotte boutiques are here to catch you up. Just remember – this season, More Is More.
