This Wintergreen home is certainly one of our favorite design projects by local interior designer Traci Zeller. When the clients bought it, it was fairly new construction, so Traci and the family were able to work with a good bit of the existing finishes and tailor the house to the comfort of a busy professional couple with young children.
Traci’s goal was to refresh things with chic style, and use furnishings, fixtures and artwork to make the most of the already lovely elements of the home. While they did lighten up millwork in several rooms and repaint a few ceilings, most of the design time and budget were spent on replacing the lighting and window treatments throughout the house, and adding new furniture, rugs, art, and accessories. The result is just beautiful….we’re ready to move in.
To me, this living room is a case study in what the trained and talented eye of a designer can contribute to your home. We all think we can “do it ourselves” or get some help from a friend with great taste. Which may be true. But it’s the attention to and commitment to detail that is the designer difference. Look at the repeat of circular form in this living space. The ceiling fixture, pillows, curtains, spindles, mirrors, lamp bases, even the bench carving. All of which complement the square edges and window mullion grids.
Ceiling light fixtures alone are worth the price of a professional designer like Traci. Look at this amazing DR fixture, and how fantastically it works with the art behind it, almost like an abstract mirror image. And note the play of textures between the wallpaper and shagreen commode below.
Using very cool silver tones in the library nicely offsets the very warm existing wood paneling throughout, and again, we love the repeat of the golden striped curtains with the entry hall wallpaper in sight beyond.
And yet another to-die-for chandelier in this breakfast area. You’ll see Traci use a combination of roman shades with full length drapes around the home. We’ve always liked this touch, not only because it keeps costs down, but also because it creates a less formal vibe in rooms where formality isn’t needed.
For children’s bedding especially, I prefer to use a combination of custom and ready-made. Their coverlets and duvet covers get so much wear and tear that I’d rather invest in lighting and window treatments. Is it possible that a child’s room can be the pièce de résistance? This girl’s room will never grow old! You know we asked where we could find that fringe trimmed comforter and dust ruffle ~ actually we thought it was a semi-custom option. Unfortunately this off-the-rack set has been discontinued, but the inspiration lives on. Traci’s touch? To add the tassels to the dresser ~ sourced from her favorite Etsy tassel source which is actually even a local CLT shop. So now you can tassel up YOUR home to your heart’s desire.
Traci calls her style Crisp, Classic, Chic, and she was recently in the top 50 of Traditional Home magazine’s 2016 “New Trads” traditional designers. Thanks to Traci Zeller for sharing her beautiful work with us. You can find her other work and follow her on:
