Valentine’s Day is in a few weeks, and it falls on a Wednesday this year. That gives you two different weekends in which to make a reservation. The following picks are based on a few factors: romantic atmosphere, gluten-free food options, and great drinks.
Aix en Provence
An amazing French-Mediterranean restaurant in Myer’s Park. Don’t be intimidated by the menu, the servers can help you translate. During my last visit, they made a fresh loaf of gluten-free bread for me, and it was the best bread I’ve ever eaten (gluten-free or not). As my server said, “The French know bread.”
It’s a small restaurant, so book a reservation as soon as you can.
Angeline’s
Located in the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel, expect Italian-influenced dishes, elegant cocktails, and charcuterie.
To make a night of it, go upstairs and visit Merchant & Trade’s rooftop bar after dinner for stellar views and book a room at the hotel.
Cellar at Duckworth’s
Speakeasy-style bar with charcuterie, smalls plates, entrees, and an amazing signature cocktail list.
It’s a moody, romantic spot that’s located downstairs from Duckworth’s in Uptown. Reservations are only taken until 9 p.m. and after, it’s first-come, first-serve.
Crepe Cellar
Located in NoDa, Crepe Cellar is an European gastropub with a “come as you are” feel.
They serve charcuterie, gluten-free crepes, and a craft cocktail program from the same bartender as Haberdish.
They don’t take reservations, but you can get on the wait list using the NoWait app.
Dot Dot Dot
A true mixology bar with a speakeasy atmosphere. They use seasonal ingredients for their small plates.

Two locations in Dilworth and South Park.
Small plates, large wine selection, and signature dark chocolates for the perfect Valentine’s Day treat. After, you can always buy a bottle of wine to go.

Zeppelin
One of South End’s newest additions. Steampunk take on a gastropub with a focus on small plates and truly-classic cocktails.
