A Step by Step Guide To A Day at Da Vinci Design Week
First Up, the Make & Invent workshops start at 10am at the Thinker Space, pick the one your kids would love the most and then spend the rest of your day exploring the Da Vinci’s Machines exhibit. Love more than one? Make more than one day of it. They don’t call it Da Vinci Design Week for nothin’! Here are the options:
Felt Jewelry & Wearables: Learn to make badges, belts, earrings and more using felt and the basic hand sewing techniques. (Friday, March 30 & Friday, April 6)
DIY Lightsabers: Harness the Force as you create your own lightsaber! (Saturday, March 31 & Saturday, April 7)
Paper Quilling: Explore the ancient art of rolling thin strips of paper into intricate designs and shapes. (Monday, April 2)
Mold Making: Discover the science behind molding and casting. (Tuesday, April 3)
Sewable Circuits: Using special conductive thread, learn how to sew patterns into fabric that will create a complete circuit. (Wednesday, April 4)
Remarkable Robots: Create your own moveable robot out of wood. (Thursday, April 5)
After That, Move on to Da Vinci demo at 11:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m. where you can try your hand at some of Da Vinci’s greatest inventions. Catapult flying objects through the air or build a bridge strong enough to hold a car without using nails or tools.
At Noon, it’s time to check out the Anatomical Discoveries with the Explore More Me lab, with educator-led demonstrations of the muscular system.
Then Take a Lunch Break at the Curio City Kitchen, Something Classic Catering manages the cafe so the food is yummy and there is local beer on tap and wine – remember this is your spring break too.
Afternoon, after a bite to eat it’s time to get artsy at 2pm. Create your own artwork and designs from fingerprint art to trying a technique called chromatography, guests can create beautiful works of art of their own to take home.
End It Big when you work in a showing of Dream Big at the IMAX theater which boasts the largest screen in the Carolinas to round out your day.
Da Vinci’s Machines offers over 75 exhibits and iconic designs including the opportunity to meet some famous characters from da Vinci’s life through dramatic interpretation. Check the daily schedule for show times and meet up with friends staying in town this spring break too.
