Countdown to Cinco de Mayo – Host Your Own Fiesta

I love Cinco de Mayo. It’s a great excuse to wear bold colors, throw a party and hang out with girlfriends and over the years it has become one of my favorite holidays. I usually opt for a night out in Charlotte every year ~ there are just so many great restaurants with good margaritas and queso. This year I’m changing things up and hosting all the fun at home and couldn’t be more excited. Hosting the perfect fiesta doesn’t need to be overwhelming; a few simple tips and recipes are all you need to be the perfect host or hostess.

What to Serve

When planning a party, I always start with the theme and the menu. Since the theme of Cinco de Mayo is already set, I’m jumping straight to the menu. The weather has finally turned so I’m taking the opportunity and planning to host the party inside and outside. Knowing the environment, I’m keeping the food quick and simple with pick-up items so guests have the opportunity to move around. Taco cups, taquitos, bang bang shrimp and chips & queso are staples for any fiesta and several crowd favorites.

Make It Pretty

Can you really have a fiesta without lots of colorful decorations? The best part of party planning is getting everything right, all the way down to the details. Cocktail napkins, lights, serve ware and centerpieces are just a few of the things your guests will notice and appreciate. They also make for good photo ops in this instagram age we are all living in. We shopped Swoozie’s for tons of Cinco cuteness and also found a few more long-lasting items at Storey Home. These are sure to put the perfect finishing touch on your fiesta and make your hostess life easier.
