In Year One, City Barbeque Huntersville Held 67 Fundraisers, Participated in 30 Community Events, And Gave $10,000+ Back

When it comes to slow-smoked BBQ during tailgating or fall feasting, it is easy to get a little greedy, but City Barbeque knows their award-winning smoked meats and house-made sides are worth sharing. During National BBQ month in June, the staff at City Barbeque Huntersville served the homeless lunch at Angels & Sparrows – a whole smorgasboard of made from scratch sides and meat heaped on each person’s plate, leaving full hearts & full bellies.

City Barbeque’s year-round mission is to give to the community – they make donations to schools, nonprofits and food banks. Annually, City Barbeque donates 10% of pre-tax profits to charities per requests. “It’s my favorite part of my job,” Local Store Marketing Coordinator, Jessica Bachand, told me. “We evaluate requests at weekly staff meetings and we like to say ‘yes!’ and give.”

What fuels Bachand and other employees is the opportunity to feed not only the bodies but the spirits of others. So, City Barbeque Huntersville has committed to feeding the North Mecklenburg High School Football Team every Friday night before-the-game meal all football season. So, if they’re champs, we know the secret’s in the sauce!

Other church, school and nonprofit organizations who ask can host a fundraiser and receive 25% back on sales from a certain date. During their Grand Opening, City Barbeque Huntersville, wrote a check to Lotta Foundation for $1400.00 for their fundraiser (that sure beats wrapping paper and candy bar sales). Throughout the year, City Barbeque gives to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Food Rescue initiatives, and in October raises funds to help support local research organizations to battle cancer. Since City Barbeque Huntersville does not have a freezer or microwave, their food is always fresh and everything else is donated to Angels & Sparrows Soup Kitchen – nothing is wasted.

“The only thing we love as much as barbeque is our community, and we are honored to lend a helping hand,” is City Barbeque’s mantra, and they live, breathe and eat by these words. Hope you’ll join me in doing the same at one of their four locations in the Charlotte area: Huntersville, Ballantyne, Matthews and University Place.
