We’re gonna make a wild, completely unverified claim and say the 2018 South End Small Business Saturday is the best shopping pop up event the QC has ever seen. With over 100 pop-ups (listed below) plus many of South End’s brick & mortar stores and over 70 places to eat and drink, it will truly be the perfect day to shop and support Charlotte’s Small Business community.
How to Do The Day:
South End Small Business Saturday starts at 11 am on 11/24 and goes til 5 pm. The SE tree lighting follows.
Take the lightrail to East West Station or park in one of several options (see below) and ride the free trolleys to get around. Look for a map to use as your guide, as they’ll be available throughout the area.
Where to Start:
While you can pretty much start wherever you park, one option is to start on Camden when you get off the lightrail at EW Station. Pop-up shops will line the street leading you to the brick and mortar shops, galleries and eateries, who will have doors open, music playing, festive snacks and gifts.Â
Other solid starting points would be to begin with Lincoln Street, between Church and Mint, where pop-ups will line the streets, and you can explore music, shop for gifts, art and decor, and beverages from Unknown Brewing. Then trolley over to Campden or to …..Dudeapalooza at C3 Lab where there will be local shops featuring gifts for dudes, original works of art for sale, and the C3 Outdoor Biergarten with a heated outdoor tent, Triple C beer and food trucks.
No matter where you start, just hop the trolley to the next section to shop and eat some more.
Parking:
There is plenty of parking on-street and off-street throughout South End. Here are a few options:
- Design Center parking deck at Doggett & Hawkins (paid)
- Design Center surface lot at Worthington & Hawkins (paid)
- Little Hardware parking lot at Mint & Bland (paid, $3/day)
- Gravel lot across the street from Little Hardware at Mint & Bland (paid, $3/day, via app)
- Gravel lot at Mint Street between Palmer and Quincy (paid, via ParkIt app)
- Free weekend parking is available on-street throughout South End, try Church, Summit, S Tryon, Camden, Kingston, Hawkins or Distribution streets
- Free parking is available in the surface lots near C3 Lab (2525 Distribution St)
Pro Tips:
- Don’t feel like you need to start the day here, as you may well want to END the day here with the South End Holiday Tree Lighting at the corner of Tremont and South Boulevard at Atherton Mill + Market. Starting at 5:30, there will be holiday music, cocoa from Not Just Coffee, hot doughnuts, performances and an appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus to light the South End Holiday Tree. After the tree is lit around 6:30, you can meet and take photos with Santa.
- Pace yourself and do a little research before, using our list of shops below.
- Make one of your first stops at one of South Ends year round brick & mortar shops to pick up your complimentary SE SBS reusable shopping bag, photo below.
- Be open to the unexpected. Yes, bring your gift list, but be prepared to find things you never knew you needed or they wanted.
