Spanning more than 30 acres, Squirrel Lake Park, has a lot to offer visitors, but especially for those who are looking for somewhere to get in their daily walk or run. The park’s scenic trails provide the ideal place to get outdoors and get your heart pumping. It also connects to another great option for walking, running, or even biking — the Four Mile Creek Greenway, which is the first greenway in Matthews. The paved greenway connects downtown Matthews with Squirrel Lake Park and links neighborhoods from E. John Street to S. Trade Street.
Another option to consider for a daily workout is the Matthew’s SportsPlex, which features two miles of paved trails that are perfect for a quick run, walk, or bike ride. For riders looking for a more intense bike ride, Colonel Francis Beatty Park is well known for its mountain biking trails that feature wooden obstacles as well as a ski jump landing pad.
