Lyle Lovett and His Large Band Hit the QC in April plus Gladys Knight in the Fall.

Music with Friends kicks off their 2019 line up with the unique and entertaining sounds of singer-songwriter Lyle Lovett.

Singer, composer, actor, and briefly once husband of Julie Roberts, Lyle Lovett has fused elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues since 1986 in 14 albums with 4 Grammys. If you were alive back in the day, for sure you remember Lovett’s gender-bending cover of Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man” which was later included in the soundtrack of the 1993 movie The Crying Game.

That album, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, was one of my favorites, with hits Nobody Knows Me, What Do You Do/The Glory of Love, I Married Her Just Because She Looks Like You

Lovett has a way with words and story telling. He’s unexpected, quirky and real. Whether touring as a ‘Duo’ or with his ‘Acoustic Group’ or his ‘Large Band’, Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s talents, but also the diversity of his influences, making him a compelling and captivating musician.

The McGlohon Theater is THE PERFECT VENUE for the Large Band. (Just to be clear, “it’s not big, it’s large” lol).

Every MWF concert is a fab evening, which starts off with cocktails and a huge spread of heavy hors d’oeuvres, followed by the performance and an after party. You can read all about Music With Friends in our articles on past concerts here.

As a member of Music With Friends, you are invited to 3 annual performances like this one, along with several other members-only get togethers at some of the QC’s top locales. You can read more about a Music With Friends membership and its privileges here. Or contact Becky Mitchener at bmitchener@musicwithfriends.com or 704-907-1806 for more information.

Hot scoop. In addition to the Lyle Lovett show on 4/23, we already know MWF is bringing in Gladys Knight on September 11.

So now you know two of the three artists you’ll see with your 2019 membership. A one year membership will run you $1650 plus a one time $550 initiation charge. The McGlohon venue is so intimate, you will never feel the same about attending another concert again.
