The BECHTLER MUSEUM OF MODERN ART’S most anticipated party of the year is on April 12th from 8pm to midnight and we have all the details for you from the Host Committee Chair Anne Carter Smith.
Pulp Art – The 2019 Gala is a night of festivity and philanthropy and the highlight of the Bechtler’s fundraising calendar. In its 10th year, the Gala will again transform the museum for a memorable evening featuring various entertainment acts, food, cocktails and activities offered throughout the museum.

Inspiration for this year’s theme came from presenting sponsor Domtar, one of the largest manufacturers of pulp in the world, with their US corporate office in Fort Mill SC. They design, manufacture, market and distribute a wide variety of paper and personal care products from copy paper to baby diapers.
We had a meeting at Domtar’s offices in the fall and they were showing us everything that can be made with their paper. Sculptures, furniture, dresses, masks, giant post-it notes- you name it! We saw in one of their offices this pressed piece of art that had been made with their pulp and that got the ideas rolling. – Anne Carter Smith
Besides the fabulous party, the reason to attend the Bechtler’s Gala is that all proceeds benefit the museum’s operating costs, including exhibitions, public programs and community outreach initiatives that encourage an appreciation of the arts, culture, education and inclusiveness.

We are using almost every single color of paper in our decoration that Domtar makes. From bright neons, to pastels and whites and grays. I think anything goes! I think because this crowd is always so artistic and creative that most people love to show off their personal style in their own ways which also makes this event so interesting and fun!

We’ve taken Anne Carter Smith’s advice and pulled some fabulous looks inspired by fabric and papers from Neiman Marcus for you to consider. We agree with her take ~ this is a not a stuffy crowd when it comes to attire, so have fun with the theme and don’t stress about your outfit!
