CLT Restaurant News = More Opens & Closed, New Drinks, Menus & Foodie Events in April

Round out the month with the latest restaurant openings and closings, foodie events and menu updates:

OPENINGS AND CLOSINGS

Tandur Indian Kitchen (Rea Farms) – Open Now

Tandur, the fast-casual Indian spot with its first Charlotte location in SouthPark, has expanded south in the Rea Farms Village shopping center.  They’ll celebrate their grand opening on April 23 with a portion of proceeds benefitting South Charlotte Dog Rescue. They are open Sunday – Thursday from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.  Find them at 9826 Sandy Rock Place Unit A, Charlotte, NC 28277.

NC Red â€“ Opening April 18 at 5:30 p.m. in Plaza Midwood

The latest venture from Bruce Moffett and Moffett Restaurant Group, (Stagioni, Barrington’s, Good Food on Montford), promises a return to the chef’s Rhode Island roots with menu items that blend New England seafood with southern flavors. Find them starting April 18 at 1921 Commonwealth Ave.

Bar Marcel – Opening Any Day Now Morrison Shops

From the owners of Vivace, this Italian-inspired restaurant with Spanish and French influences is expected to open soon in SouthPark’s Morrison Shopping Center within the coming week. The bar and small plates concept is the tenth restaurant in Stacey and Kevin Jennings’s Urban Food Group. Find them at 3920 Sharon Rd., Suite 160.

Inishmore – Opening Soon East Blvd

Following the closing of The Rogue, the owners of Murphy’s Kitchen & Tap are looking to bring a neighborhood pub to Dilworth’s East Boulevard. The restaurant and bar, named for an island off the western coast of Ireland, will serve culinary dishes and spirits sourced locally and abroad.

QC Pour House – Opening Soon South End

Aiming to become South End’s new neighborhood spot, QC Pourhouse will offer their take on pub fare, weekly food and drink specials and a great atmosphere to catch the game.

Foxcroft Wine Co. coming to Waverly

This Dilworth and SouthPark go-to for food and wine will open a third location in South Charlotte’s Waverly. Expect their handpicked wines by the glass, new dishes and a charcoal grill similar to those used in Spain.

Closings:

This month also sadly saw some closings. Va da Vie Gelato shuttered its doors in Park Road Shopping Center, as did the bar and beer garden Flight in Uptown. Plaza Midwood’s Peculiar Rabbit is up for sale, meaning the it can stay in tact or be replaced by a new concept.

FOODIE EVENTS

Final Draught: An Evening with Chef Bruce Moffett
April 23 | Town Brewing Company | 6 p.m.

The next installment of the Final Draught quarterly discussion series is a conversation with chef Bruce Moffett moderated by historian Tom Hanchett. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door (if available), and include light bites. Beer will be available for purchase. 

Sycamore Beer Dinner
April 24 | The King’s Kitchen | 6:30 p.m.

The King’s Kitchen and Sycamore Brewing will team up for this five-course meal and beer tasting prepared by chef Phil Barnes. $80 per person.

April Truffle Tasting and Pairing Event
April 24 | Dunhill Hotel |6 p.m.

Sweeten up your Wednesday night with a tasting and pairing event featuring Potts Chocolate, The Asbury’s new spring menu items and coffee from Pure Intentions. There will also be live music by Tom Billotto.

Sushi Rolling Class with Bonsai Fusion
April 29 | 7th Street Public Market | 6 p.m.

Learn how to roll sushi from the professionals themselves. This hands-on class, led by chef Nobu of Bonsai Fusion, includes instruction and demos, dinner, recipes and one beer, wine or coffee. $45 per person.

Fess Parker Wine Dinner
April 30 | Local Loaf – NoDa | 6:30 p.m.

Join Local Loaf & Fess Parker for a five-course, seven wine dinner pairing. Enjoy dishes including Argentinian grilled octopus, oysters, lamb and dessert, each paired with a Fess Parker wine. Early bird registration (through April 19) is $75 per person while general admission will be $100 per person.

Angeline’s new menu items

Angeline’s has added some new dishes to its brunch menu, including a 12-inch sharable “pan” cake (pictured) stopped with Chantilly cream, pistachio, seasonal fruit coulis and sorghum butter. Also on the menu: avocado toast, a brunch burger and a chicken biscuit. View the full menu here. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

They’ve also rolled out a three-course, prixe fixe menu that’s perfect for a pre-theater dinner. It’s $40 per person and available until 6:30 p.m. daily. View the menu here.

Merchant and Trade and Angeline’s cocktail for charity

Angeline’s and Merchant & Trade will donate $1 for every Velvet Slipper cocktail purchased to support Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry, a fundraising endurance event on May 14-16, featuring award-winning chefs and members of the culinary community fighting hunger outside the kitchen. Tito’s Handmade Vodka will also match the donation for every dollar donated.

Civetta is now serving brunch

This south Charlotte newcomer is now serving brunch Sundays from 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect brunch classics including a frittatas and omelettes, along with items with an Italian twist, such as a caprese Benedict and chase and eggs with pancetta. Make your reservations online.

New items and specials at Dilworth Tasting Room

Dilworth Tasting Room has a few exciting updates for spring: the ever-popular burrata is back on the menu, they’re now serving Wooden Robot beer (their only local beer offering) and Thursdays are now half price rose for spring and summer. They’ve also updated their hours: Sundays 1 – 8 p.m. and Saturdays 1 p.m. – 12 a.m.

New spring cocktails at WP Kitchen + Bar

Led by Michael Mascali, WP Kitchen + Bar is launching new spring cocktails this Thursday, April 18. What to expect from the new sips:

  • Strawberry Fields: Ketel One, fresh strawberries and mint shaken together with a dash of simple syrup
  • Strange Days: a well balanced mix of Jim Beam, Blood Orange and a hint of ginger
  • Pink Kool-Aid: Hendricks gin, Amarena cherry essence, lemon juice and mineral water
