The weekend’s almost here and for us, that means more chances to explore all that the Queen City has to offer. From wine dinners to flea markets to food truck rallies, here’s what to do this weekend in Charlotte:

10th Annual Joedance Film Festival
Patricia McBride & Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance | August 1 – 3

The three-day film festival, celebrating its tenth year, will screen 18 short films created by directors, producers, writers and actors with a North Carolina or South Carolina connection. Films begin each night at 8 p.m., with a general admission reception starting at 7 p.m. The festival raises funds for Atrium Health Levine Children’s for pediatric cancer research.

Confluence: Where Music Gathers
August 3 – 4 | U.S. National Whitewater Center

Part music festival, part conference, Confluence is a two-day celebration of music featuring performances by 19 local artists and bands whose genres span blues, rock, indie and more, and panel discussions. Free and open to the public.

THURSDAY

Opening Reception: Gather
Sozo Gallery | 5:30 – 8 p.m.

This group exhibit focusing on the spaces and places that bring people together features the work of artists Marvin Espy, Paul Norwood, Deborah Koo, Fonda Doerre and Bruce Nellsmith. The exhibit will be on view through August 16.

IPA Day 2019 
Sycamore Brewing | 12 – 10 p.m.

Sycamore is celebrating their annual IPA Day with extended hours from 12 p.m., three live bands, $3 Mountain Candy and Citropica IPAs all day, an IPA Day pint glass for the first 200 guests and a free IPA Day t-shirt for the first 50 guests. Food truck Rollicious Ribs & More, LLC will be onsite for lunch and dinner, while The Garbage Truck offers more dinner options.

Summer Concert Series
Thursdays | Comporium Amphitheater at the Anne Springs Close Greenway | 6:30 p.m.

The seventh annual Summer Concert Series continues with live music, food truck vendors and beer, wine and other refreshments for sale. View the full schedule here.

FRIDAY

A Celebration of Summer
Not Just Coffee – Jay Street | 6:15 p.m.

This collaboration dinner from Jamie Swofford, Keia Mastrianni and Not Just Coffee features four vegetable-driven courses each paired with a beverage. $50 per person.

Comedy Night at the METROPOLITAN featuring Sunday Supper
METROPOLITAN | 8 p.m.

Kick off the weekend with a night of interactive improv comedy from featured act Sunday Supper, one of Charlotte Comedy Theater’s House Improv Teams. $10 general admission.

Birthday & Tasting Party
The Secret Chocolatier | 4 – 7 p.m.

To celebrate eight years in business, The Secret Chocolatier will host a free drop-in event where guests can sample new treats and give feedback. Your suggestion just may make it into the display case!

2019 Fan Fest presented by Daimler
Bank of America Stadium | 6 p.m.

The Carolina Panthers’ annual Fan Fest includes the team’s first appearance of the season at the stadium for practice, performances by the TopCats, Sir Purr, PurrCussion and the Black & Blue Crew, and a fireworks and laser show. $5 tickets with proceeds benefitting Carolina Panthers Charities and its mission to serve the needs of communities across the Carolinas.

Jammin’ by the Tracks Concert Series
Downtown Waxhaw | 7 – 9 p.m.

Bring a lawn chair to enjoy the next edition of Downtown Waxhaw’s Jammi’ by the Tracks featuring live music by Caroline Keller Band.

NOVEL Montford Park Food Truck Friday Block Party
Novel Montford Park | 5 – 8 p.m.

Don’t miss the first Food Truck Friday Block Party at Novel Montford Park, where there will be live music, a special Lenny Boy beer release, food trucks and more. Kid and pup friendly. 

Beer Release: Trapper Keeper Glitter Saison
Bold Missy Brewery | 4 – 10 p.m.

Bold Missy’s most famous glittery beer returns to the taproom with a celebration featuring Shimmer Down body and face painting. They’ll also be collecting school supplies for local teachers all weekend where each donation enters you to win a night out for four at the brewery.

Small Batch, Big Flavor Tasting
Dot Dot Dot Charlotte | 3 p.m.

Explore Small Batch Bourbons including Knob Creek Small Batch, Basil Hayden’s Small Batch, Baker’s Small Batch, and Booker’s Small Batch Bourbons at this tasting featuring a Southern Fish Fry small plate prepared by Executive Chef Daniel Wheeler. $50 per person plus tax and gratuity.
