Juneteenth Charlotte 2020. Festival, Bike Ride, Food Truck Rally, Drive Thru Celebration, Socially Distant Block Party, Lunch & Learn and More.

June 19th, or Juneteenth | Black Independence Day, commemorates the day that Union general Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free. Although the Emancipation Proclamation had formally freed them almost two and a half years earlier, Texas was the most remote of the slave states, with a low presence of Union troops, so enforcement of the proclamation had been slow and inconsistent. Also known as Freedom Day,  and Jubilee Day, Juneteenth in Charlotte will be commemorated with a local festival, a drive thru celebration, a bike ride, a food truck rally, and more.
