Now Open & Opening Soon, BOGO Jeni’s & More. Your Charlotte Food News for September

New Charlotte Restaurants NOW OPEN

Emmy Squared Pizza opens THIS THURSDAY 9/9 at 1508 Central Ave in Plaza Midwood. Detroit style pizza and a pretty hot looking burger & sandwich line up plus cocktails, salads, these cheese fries and more. My family is stoked.

Emmy Squared initially opening hours Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays 5-10pm | Fridays and Saturdays 5-11pm

White Duck Taco opened a 2nd CLT location last week in Matthews, and we’re wearing the tracks out on our tires. Open for dine in, order online or call for pickup, located at 131 E. John St. in downtown Matthews.

A new bubble tea shop, Boba Boba Cafe, has opened at CENTRO RAILYARD at 1425 Winnifred Street, Suite 114 with soft open hours of Sunday to Thursday | 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Lots of drinks we can’t wait to try.

Tifa Chocolate & Gelato the Ballantyne dessert cafe is NOW OPEN Sunday-Thursday: 10:00am-10:00pm and Friday-Saturday: 10:00am-11:00pm. Coffee & cookies, pastries, chocolate and of course dozens of flavors of gelato and sorbetto made in house. This looks amazing.

Pepperbox Donuts opened its 2nd CLT location in NoDa at 2810 N. Davidson in mid-August. This peach fritter tho.

Rocket Pizza has opened the first of its planned several locations, this one in Wesley Heights near the BOA stadium. Next up is a spot in Plaza Midwood. Go for this New Haven CT style pizza with thin crust & fresh toppings. (or get delivery via doordash and grubhub)

Novelty House Rooftop cocktail bar has opened atop the Binaco tower in the  @5thstreetdistrict at 123 E.5th Street. Boasting a flower selfie wall, membership, a dress code, etc. it’s all the buzz on instagram.

RePour CLT is a new Craft Beer, Wine and Prosecco spot located inside the Innovation Barn at 932 Seigle Ave with a goal of supporting local and targeting zero waste.

Lauren at @restaurant_aholic shares her take on a few August openings, including three new experiences to Uptown brought to us by the new J.W. Marriot Hotel:

Caroline’s Oyster Bar – A dreamy take on coastal seafood celebrating the neighborhood charm and fresh flavors of the North Carolina coast. Uptown’s newest anchor is set by a 360-degree centerpiece bar, breezy outdoor patio, and charming Carolina-style raw bar.

Dean’s Italian Steakhouse – A classic American steakhouse with Italian expression set in a modern, rustic open space. Dean’s features a show kitchen where guests can watch American Wagyu Beef and other prime cuts – as well as authentic homemade pasta dishes – being prepared.

Aura Rooftop – Follow the glow five stories high to the rooftop bar, a place inspired by the regal aura of Queen Charlotte herself. The views reflecting off of the mirror-like exterior reflects the city back onto itself. Softened by lush greenery, Aura is similar to English gardens and conservatories. The menu features botanical craft cocktails, boutique wines and small bites.

Mizu – This Japanese restaurant opened in mid August to offer a refreshed take on live-fire cooking atop the Hyatt Centric Hotel in the heart of the SouthPark neighborhood. The rooftop restaurant combines the traditions of ancient Japanese cooking with Southern influences and Asian flavors. Steered by the O-KU chef, we expect nothing but great things.

Island Fin Poke – This BYOB (build your own bowl) Poke restaurant is now open in Berewick Town Center in South Charlotte. A quick, casual restaurant that serves Hawaiian-style poke in a cool-casual environment, transporting you from every day to a surf- shack on the beach. From their homemade sauces, 25 toppings, and sustainably sourced fish, you will be tasting the flavors of the islands.

Opening Soon

Jinya Ramen Bar is opening soon, this month for sure, in the new Ally Center Uptown. Out of LA, Jinya is also opening a SouthPark location later this fall. Known for its slow-cooked approach to ramen, made from broths simmered for 20 hours in-house, Jinya will offer over a dozen ramen choices plus buns, tempura, gyoza & more.

Mariposa at the Mint will open this month replacing Halcyon in a new iteration. Mariposa, Spanish for butterfly, will be a multicultural culinaria, representing an evolution for both the restaurant space and creator Jill Marcus of Mother Earth Group. The centerpiece of the Mariposa menu will be mezze, a North African and Mediterranean concept of small dishes meant to be shared, and experienced by everyone at the table. With executive chef Jonathan Moore leading the kitchen, dishes will include Lamb Belly Bulgogi Lettuce Wraps, Ceviche Aguachile, Piri Piri Chicken, Heirloom Tomato & Burrata Tart, Gullah Paella, and more.

The Woodlawn Chick Fil A will open in the next week per Axios Charlotte, which sites a Sept 9th anticipated opening for the new drive thru only location.

The Royal Tot
is opening a popup bar, Rumaway Cove, in early September at the new hotel Refuge on Central. The bar will be open a couple months, at least, potentially longer depending on construction progress at the permanent space for The Royal Tot (which is currently under construction and targeting a November opening). This is a unique opportunity for The Royal Tot to begin connecting with guests and testing recipes ahead of its opening at 933 Louise Ave. this Fall.
