Joe & Katy Kindred Plan a Plaza Midwood Cafe

Per Axios CLT –> Joe and Katy Kindred are taking over the Dairy Queen building in Plaza Midwood and putting an all-day café there called Milkbread. Deets at the link.

Charlotte Restaurants Now Open

Velvet Taco – Velvet Taco opened it’s first outlet in Charlotte at Optimist Hall. Their second location is now open at 1601 E. Woodlawn Street in the Park Road Shopping Center. They have over 20 different taco varieties made with fresh ingredients and multi-cultural flavors.

Rumway Cove – Pop-up bar, Rumway Cove, is now open at the Refuge Hotel on Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood. This establishment comes from the team behind Royal Tot and will be open for at least two months. It will close after the Royal Tot opens later this fall.

Salata Salad Kitchen – As of September 30th, Salata Salad Kitchen has opened their first restaurant in Charlotte at 601 S. Tryon Street on the ground floor of the new Ally building. They offer guests fully customizable, built-to-order salads, wraps, soups and organic teas and lemonades. With over 50 fresh toppings and a dozen signature dressings, they give you the freedom to customize your salad or wrap however you like so you can eat, feel and live the way you want.

JINYA Ramen Bar – This new LA ramen spot opened on Sept 20. From its customizable menu to sleek interiors, JINYA Ramen Bar presents a contemporary dining experience ideal for lively social gatherings for all ages.

Opening This Month

Supperland Speakeasy – Not only was the Southern steakhouse, Supperland, a big hit here in Charlotte but now we have a speakeasy to look forward to. It will be located beneath the restaurant’s cocktail bar and will be open for reservations-only starting early October.

The tasting menu will rotate every few months with coursed cocktails and small bite pairings. The first round of tickets went on sale September 24th on the Supperland website. The two-hour experience runs from 8:30-10:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets will cost you about $115 or $150 including tip and tax.

Batch House – After the original location was destroyed by a flood, the NEW Batch House opens October 9th at 901 Berryhill Road. The bakery will have all the treats we’ve missed including the signature oatmeal crème pies plus some new desserts owner Christina Rojas-Agurcia has cooked up at home too.

VelTree – This vegan soul food restaurant is expanding operations. Owners Velvet and Treona Kelty-Jacobs are opening a second location in Ballantyne Village to compliment their current University City location.

Bagel Boys – Coming this month to Waverly, Bagel Boys are bringing southern hospitality in a New York minute. Authentic New York bagels will now be right here in the Queen City. Get added to the Pre-Opening VIP list here.

Bitty and Beaus, a coffee shop run by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will open on October 9 in the South End Design Center, by Hawkers & Jenis. Closing

Zen Asian Fusion – After 16 years of business, Zen Asian Fusion is closing its doors permanently on October 3rd due to challenges over the past few years. We will miss this Dilworth Neighborhood staple.

Two dollars from each martini sold will go to Receiving Hope, an arm of former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen’s Receptions for Research. Talk about drinking for a cause.

Taste of Charlotte – October 1st – 3rd, 2021 Truist Field, Home of the Charlotte Knights. Taste of Charlotte is a three-day food festival in Charlotte, NC. Featuring over 100 samples from area restaurants, they will also have various performances and activities for festival-goers.

Wine & Food Festival – Oct 2nd, Hosted by Drink Eat Relax, this year’s Wine & Food Festival will offer over 100 wines from all over the world, as well as NC producers along with a new selection of beers as well as your favorite liquors on hand for tasting.

Jewish Deli Fest – October 10th from 12:00pm – 4:00pm at The Village Green in Davidson. The annual Lake Norman Jewish Council Deli Fest is all about the food. Kosher-style, authentic, traditional, delicious Jewish Deli favorites. Come and enjoy a New York kosher-style deli sandwich of corned beef or pastrami with coleslaw and a pickle. Our Kosher Box offers a Hebrew National hot dog, soda and chips, perfect for kids of all ages.

BayHaven Food & Wine Festival – October 22nd-24th at Camp North End in Charlotte. Founded by husband-and-wife team Gregory “Greg” Collier and Subrina Collier, the festival is aimed at raising awareness of our black culinary experts and creating opportunities for newcomers in the hospitality industry.

Ticket prices start at $10 and can be purchased through the event website.

Sunflour Baking Company – Their Fall menu has launched. Try one of their Pumpkin Whoopie Pies today.

Amelie’s French Bakery – The Pumpkin Chai & Coffee Cakes are now available as part of their new Fall menu.

Golden Cow Creamery – Pumpkin Spice is back. Fall is coming soon and there’s no better way to enjoy the last hot days with this classic Fall flavor.

Batch House – Pumpkin Puddles, Pumpkin Rolls, Pumpkin Cake and Pumpkin S’mores will be on the menu this fall.

Suarez Bakery – Pumpkin Bread is back! Fall spice Pumpkin Bread with buttery, brown sugar cinnamon crumb topping. Slices are in store now, loaves coming soon. Available only through October.
