#BlackHistoryCLT: Brooklyn & Hyde Park

Johnson C. Smith University archivist Brandon Lunsford offers an update on a massive project to document and map the vanished Black neighborhood of Brooklyn, demolished to build Charlotte’s Government Center. He’ll be joined by John Howard, planner for the City of Charlotte, who will share research on the elite African American neighborhood of Hyde Park off Beatties Ford Road, known for homes designed by architect Harvey Gantt. The event is free, but registration is required.
Charlotte Symphony Orchestra at Anne Springs Close Greenway

Pay tribute to Anne Springs Close at the Comporium Amphitheater with a concert featuring the internationally acclaimed Charlotte Symphony. Attendees are invited to bring canned or boxed food item to be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina or a gently used book to fill the little library located behind the Greenway Gateway. Admission is free, and the parking fee has been waived for this special event.
