Verse & Vino Brings Five Stellar Authors to Charlotte this November

Verse & Vino is back in person this November with New York Times bestselling authors David Baldacci, Adriana Trigiani and more.

Verse & Vino is Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation’s signature annual fundraiser. This celebration of reading, writing and the joy of libraries – shared with a community of readers and New York Times best-selling authors – has become one of our region’s most anticipated events.

This year’s line-up of authors offers something for every type of reader ~ with bestselling authors David Baldacci, Adriana Trigiani, and Sarah McCoy plus newcomers Javier Zamora and Megan Giddings. Sheri Lynch, author, speaker, and radio legend, will be
the emcee.

This year’s Verse & Vino authors:

DAVID BALDACCI – Long Shadows: David published his first novel, Absolute Power, in 1996. The feature film adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. In total, David has published 45 novels for adults; all have been national and international bestsellers, and several have been adapted for film and television. His novels are published in over 45 languages and in more than 80 countries, with 150 million copies sold worldwide. David has also published seven novels for young readers.

Megan GiddingsThe Women Could Fly: Megan is an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota. Her first novel, Lakewood, was one of New York Magazine‘s top ten books of 2020, an NPR Best Book of 2020, a Michigan Notable book for 2021, a finalist for two NAACP Image Awards, and was a finalist for an L.A. Times Book Prize in the Ray Bradbury Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Speculative category. Megan’s writing has received funding and support from the Barbara Deming Foundation and Hedgebrook. She lives in the Midwest.

SARAH McCOY – Mustique Island: Sarah is the New York TimesUSA Today, and international bestselling author of the novels Mustique IslandMarilla of Green Gables, The Mapmaker’s Children, The Baker’s Daughter, a 2012 Goodreads Choice Award Best Historical Fiction nominee, the novella “The Branch of Hazel” in Grand Central, The Time It Snowed in Puerto Rico, and Le souffle des feuilles et des promesses(Pride and Providence). Her work has been featured in NewsweekReal Simple, The Millions, Literary Hub, Writer’s Digest, Huffington PostRead It ForwardWriter Unboxed, and other publications. She was the host of the NPR WSNC Radio monthly program “Bookmarked with Sarah McCoy” from 2018-2019 and a Board Member for the literary nonprofit Bookmarks from 2018-2021. Sarah taught English writing at Old Dominion University and at the University of Texas at El Paso.

ADRIANA TRIGIANI – The Good Left Undone: Adriana is The New York Times bestselling author of twenty books in fiction and nonfiction. She has been published in 38 countries around the world. The New York Times calls her “a comedy writer with a heart of gold,” her books “tiramisu for the soul.” She wrote the blockbuster The Shoemaker’s Wife, the Big Stone Gap series, the Valentine trilogy and Lucia, Lucia. Trigiani’s themes of love and work, emphasis upon craftsmanship and family life have brought her legions of fans around the world. Their devotion has made Adriana one of “the reigning queens of women’s fiction” (USA Today).

JAVIER ZAMORA – Solito: Javier was born in La Herradura, El Salvador in 1990. When he was a year old, his father fled El Salvador due to the US-funded Salvadoran Civil War (1980-1992). His mother followed her husband’s footsteps in 1995 when Javier was about to turn five. Zamora was left at the care of his grandparents who helped raise him until he migrated to the US when he was nine. His first poetry collection, Unaccompanied (Copper Canyon Press, September 2017), explores some of these themes. In his forthcoming memoir, SOLITO (Hogarth, September 2022), Javier retells his nine-week odyssey across Guatemala, Mexico, and eventually through the Sonoran Desert. He travelled unaccompanied by boat, bus, and foot. After a coyote abandoned his group in Oaxaca, Javier managed to make it to Arizona with the aid of other migrants.

Verse & Vino is an annual fundraiser for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation, which supports programs, services, digital and print collections, and a growing endowment for the future needs of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. It is presented by PNC Bank, and supported by Honeywell, Bank of America, Southminster, Lowe’s, Rodgers Builders and many other corporations and private citizens. This year, the Library Foundation hopes to raise $525,000 through Verse & Vino, to support the Library’s mission to create a community of readers and empower individuals with free access to information and the universe of ideas.
