We’ve almost made it through the cold, dark days of January, and spring is on the horizon ~ at least that’s what we’re telling ourselves. This week, there are lots of options on things to do, both indoors and out. Spend a night at the opera, dine the final days of Charlotte Restaurant Week, take in some soothing jazz, or check out Charlotte’s newest nightclub.

Modernism + Film | Mur Murs

If you’re a fan of murals and how they speak to communities, then you won’t want to miss the installment of Modernism + Film,  featuring the kaleidoscopic documentary, ‘Mur Murs,’ at The Betchler Museum of Modern Art. The vast majority of the scenes of the film are shots of murals, all are located in the city of Los Angeles, often with the mural’s painter or model staged in front of the mural for dramatic effect.   • The program will meet Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with optional late pick-up until 4:00 p.m.
  • Open to students who will be entering 7th grade in August, 2023 to those who have just graduated high school in June, 2023.
  • Daily lunch and snack is FREE
  • Students who successfully complete the program can earn 4 hours of college credit for Chinese 101 or 102.

Combatting Hate: One Voice at a Time with Stephen Smith

Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for Civic Engagement at Queens University

The Greenspon Center will commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day with its inaugural community event titled Combatting Hate: One Voice at a Time on January 26 at 7:00 pm at Queens University. The evening will honor Holocaust victims as well as highlight the innovative trajectory of Holocaust education today. This event is free and open to the public. This two-day festival features workshops, masterclasses, and a performance from Dan Forrest, world-renowned composer and arranger. RSVP recently opened in South End and features four different venue spaces in one building. Each space – rooftop, stage, veranda and parlor, has a different mood to set the scene apart from the rest, along with signature drink options for you to enjoy. The rooftop, stage, and veranda is open Wednesday through Sunday, while the parlor is open daily. A great way to end the week with the girls!
