It’s possible that Easter is my favorite holiday to decorate for and an Easter Brunch tablescape is my favorite kind of table.
The start of a new spring season ushers in a fresh color palette and elements from the outdoors that have been dormant for the bitter cold winter months. I welcome the opportunity to flood a table with pastel colors, greenery and faux critters. Each year I seek new ways to reuse my favorite pieces and tableware to create an experience that is welcoming and beautiful for my family. This year’s table is no exception. Read on to get the scoop on 5 things you should do to create a fabulous Easter Brunch tablescape this year.
Layer the Linens
Whether in an outfit or on a table, pattern mixing is a must and a fun way to incorporate more of what you love in your event. When selecting complementary patterns, try keeping the palette the same and the patterns different. As shown above, each tablecloth shares the same tones of pink. This shared palette allows the gingham + the floral to work together. Maybe you’d like to use the same pattern. In this case, you could use contrasting colors and play with scale. Try mixing a small ditsy floral print with much larger, expanded floral print.
Balance the Colors
When setting a table, it’s important to balance the palette to keep it from being too much of any one shade or color family. While a family of shades is fun, it’s visually pleasing to balance out a warm palette with little touches of cool and vice versa. Opt to bring out a color underrepresented in your tablecloth or bring in a whole new color if it works. Pink and green are always a great combination for spring and a shocking hot pink pairs well with saturated blues and purples. Don’t be afraid to play around with different color combinations until you find just the right mix for you.
Ground it with a Neutral
Drinkware and flatware are great places to bring all that color back down to earth. Life is about balance and your table should be too. Tortoise low-ball glasses are fabulous and really draw attention to each place setting. The rattan flatware brings more neutrality and often much needed texture to the table. This set is a dream as the mid-tone coloring goes with just about anything you can imagine. Cane wrapped glasses and bamboo flatware are other great options to use in your place settings and can be found anywhere from Pottery Barn to Amazon to suit any hostess’s budget.
Add Seasonal Touches & Hidden Gems
Would it even be an Easter brunch table without a few fun holiday inspired touches? Easter is such an easy and fun holiday to decorate for and many retailers offer fabulous bunny collectibles, figurines and centerpieces. The centerpiece of any table can make or break the presentation. It must be beautiful and functional. If a centerpiece lacks functionality or is so large the guests cannot communicate or hear each other, it will be cumbersome and likely all they remember. If the place settings are layered and attention getting, opt for a simpler, low profile centerpiece like a trio of moss bunnies. A collection of stems in bud vases or one low floral arrangement are other great options for an Easter brunch tablescape.
Want to add even more festivity to your table? Add a little something fun to each place setting. In keeping with the bunny theme, our table shows faux carrots tucked into each napkin ring. Place cards, treats or mini baskets would be a fun surprise for each guest too.
Utilize the Light + Space Above the Table
This point and the previous point go together pretty well and can be used together or separate. The light fixture and space above the table is underused space when it comes to setting a fabulous Easter tablescape and a great way wow your guests with the presentation without losing that functionality mentioned earlier. No matter the holiday, I love utilizing the light fixture to draw the eye up and make a more impactful centerpiece. Eggs hanging from trees in the yard is a popular way to decorate for Easter. Bring that childlike magic inside and hang them from your chandelier, pendant or ceiling with a spool of fishing line.
