July is SUNFLOWER month around Charlotte, and, depending on rainfall and temperatures, most fields will be in full bloom soon. Here are some tips about visiting area sunflower farms:
- Earlier in the morning will be both less hot and less crowded.
- However, for photos, since sunflowers follow the sun, right before sunset is also a great time for a sunflower field photo visit.
- Many of these farms charge professional photographers for photo sessions, so be sure to check. Many photographers offer sessions at a farm as well.
- Dress for a FARM and for the HEAT. Shoes that can get dirty. Nothing too precious or fancy. Wear a hat and lots of sunscreen.
- Bring waters.
Some fields allow for picking of the flowers, and some are just for visiting and/or photos. Some are drop in and some require appointments. The best way to plan your trip is to use our links thru to the farm(s) you want to go to, and see what they’re saying about their specific situation.

Summer sunflowers (does not include blueberry picking):
$3 per person (ages 3 and older) for field and farm access and includes 1 u-cut stem per person. Jar plus 25 stems (many varieties including sunflowers) of your choice is $17.50.
Reservation sign-ups for sunflower Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays will be posted the Tuesday prior at 5:00 after they look at the upcoming weather forecast. There are unlimited sunflowers so reservations are readily available.
Blueberries (includes access to sunflower field for photos) :
Weekly picking on Saturdays in June with reservation. Reservation sign-ups will be posted the Tuesday prior at 5:00 pm after they check the weather. Blueberries are $4.89/lb. The bushes are new and smaller so the limited reservations will likely fill up quickly.

POCKETS OF POPPIES FLOWER FARM – U-Pick.

A working flower farm that offers U-Pick. They announce the schedule on Sunday for the coming week. Bring your own vase / vessel. NO PETS.
- $25 Pitcher – Pick as many blooms as you can fit into our provide pitcher to use while picking your stems. Usually at least 30-40 stems can fit into it.
- $65 Bucket (when available)- This is a lot of stems, but if you’re up for the task, you will be awarded in many blooms to take home.
- $13 Kids Vase – This is a vase especially for kids, and they get to take it home full of flowers.
- $1 Dahlias – These flowers are priced separately and sold by the stem.

Draper Wildlife Management Area Sunflower Field

No reservation required, open dawn to dusk. No picking or cutting flowers, photos allowed and professional photography sessions available – check their social media.

Dewberry Farm

Dewberry Farm is a private residence that you can reserve for weddings, receptions, and rehearsal dinners. On two special occasions, it is open to the public: Spring Tulips and Summer Sunflowers. Both events are ticketed events, no walk in’s, tickets will be available online only when the event is going on. Sunflower ticketing not yet open, but link here to stay tuned. You DO need to pre purchase tickets online.
8th annual U-Pick Sunflowers — estimating opening 7/27/24. Please remember that bloom time is dependent on the weather. Once dates are sure, they will release tickets. 17 varieties of sunflowers, zinnia’s, dahlia’s and wildflowers.
- Admission for adults will be $13.50.
- Children over 2 $5.00
- All adult tickets include 3 beautiful bouquet sunflowers, admission into the field, farm and venue, all our photo props.
- Child tickets do not include sunflowers.
