One of our favorite Christmas traditions is choosing and cutting down our very own Christmas tree. Thankfully, we don’t have to travel far as there are plenty of farms nearby that offer Choose-and-Cut trees. Make a day out of it with the family as there are usually lots of holiday photo ops!

Grace Tree Farm

At Grace Tree Farm, you get the option to cut down your very own Christmas tree or choose a premium, fresh-cut Fraser Fir brought down from the North Carolina mountains. No reservations needed except for these 5 days (11/24,25,26 and 12/2 and 12/3. Make your reservations here.

Take your pick and cut from a variety of trees including Virginia Pine, Red Cedar & Leyland Cypress along with wreaths, roping, and garlands. Make a day out of it by visiting the farm animals, haystacks and hay tunnels, and visiting the Country Store where local handmade crafts and gifts live.

Penland Christmas Tree Farm

At Penland Christmas Tree Farm, they provide the saws for you to choose and cut your very own tree. Choose from a variety of trees including Leyland cypress, Virginia Pine (Southern Scotch), White Pine, Carolina Sapphire, Christmas Mint Cypress, Red Cedar, and Fraser Fir. On the weekends, enjoy a free hayride and a cup of hot cocoa while sitting around the fire pit. Cash and check only ~ ATM is available.

A variety of trees can be found at Pinetop farm: White Pine, Fraser Fir, Leyland Cypress, and Blue Ice. Bow saws are provided for you to cut down your own tree as chainsaws are not allowed. They also offer Premium Fraser Fir precut trees for those who don’t want to cut their own.

- The Whitewater Center: Beginning this year, The Whitewater Center will sell freshly cut Fraser fir trees sourced from the Blue Ridge highlands of Virginia. They will also offer other holiday goods, wreaths, and wares for purchase. Available beginning November 23.
